Review of the December 4, 2013 edition of WWE Main Event:
Goldust Def. Ryback Via DQ
This was supposed to be the big match that really feel flat. Goldust has done some good matches in the past and really on his game but Ryback’s style didn’t flow well. It looks like with the Wyatt Family and The Shield already in a program that we will get these guys taking on the champions. Most likely at the TLC PPV.
The Usos Def. Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal
A fun tag match but we have seen so many times that it just feels like filler. The Uso’s are mega over and proven they go with anyone in the tag division. 3MB needs to be repackaged in serious way.
Alberto Del Rio Def. Dolph Ziggler
A good match and a good way to kick off this show. Ziggler lost on Raw and Main Event so clearly he is in the dog house. There is still no real direction there taking Del Rio’s character but a win is a win if they are taking him a certain direction. The character is lost and they need to start building him back up to what got him over in the first place. Cars, being a rich guy who is better than everyone else, ETC. Right now he is very plain and un interesting. Good match 3-5* Match.
Damien Sandow Def. Santino Marella
It is what it is, comedy match but it got Sandow over which is important. Does this win do anything for our “The Intellectual Savior of the (Unwashed) Masses” I’m not sure but it’s nice to see him get that W. Comedy match 2-5* Match
Kofi Kingston Def. Fandango
An entertaining match but what does this server other a filler match? Kingston wins every other match and Fandango hasn’t been irrelevant in months. He isn’t on TV as much as he once was and it’s silly they have a great talent in Johnny Curtis as this Fandango. The guys can “go” and his has “It” but will WWE repackage him? Not very likely but one can hope.
A good edition of Main Event just for the action, No real build towards anything then maybe Kingston getting a win if they continue his feud with The Miz (Which I think they will)
What do you think? Leave it in the comment area below.
Tamina Snuka defeated Naomi
Isn’t main events concept that they build up the first match and it’s supposed to be a big deal. HAHA Vince McMahon thinking when he makes this match. Look I get their trying to do everything in their power to get Total Divas out there to their fans but come on did this really have to open the show. Where is the “it factor” of a show when you have a Divas match to start the show. A standard match but nothing to go out of your way to see.
WWE Divas Title Match: Natalya defeated AJ Lee (champion) by DQ, Tamina Snuka interfered and AJ ran away through the crowd with the title.
A better than standard match that saw Tamina make the save. This does two things, one it makes it build more storyline and they can have a rematch most likely at Suvior Series PPV. Two it gives creditability for Natalya that she can beat the champion. Brie Bella had a bit of that early in her feud but not anymore. Natalya is a serious contender for the belt. I wish they would have built this match up more instead of going straight to it. Main Event has lost all the special element of the show.
Justin Gabriel defeated Tyson Kidd
Two smaller guys going at it in an action paces match. It is surprising that Kidd lost since he has been and still is in a program with Fandango. Gabriel who don’t see a lot get a win over kidd. With that being said if you like smaller guys wrestle with a quicker pace than this is your match.
3MB defeated R-Truth, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil
Another surprise win from a group who is a jobber for most tag teams. With Truth going over on Ryback it’s interesting to see that he lost. Does WWE management not think that their WWE universe not watch main event or they just don’t care what common sense is? A filler and throw away match no doubt.
This aside from the divas title feels like a superstar’s edition. The divas match isn’t enough to keep my interest up in this show at all.
Tons of Funk have the size advantage on their side when they step in the ring. Tonight on WWE Main Event, they will be outweighed because they will take on all three members of the 3MB. Will the big men be able to overcome the numbers? Plus, Divas action! All that and more on this week’s edition of WWE Main Event!
We are on tape from Columbus, Ohio. Josh Mathews and Alex Riley have the call for this week.
