Jack White’s PPV POV – SummerSlam 2012

Hello everyone and welcome to the all-new Pay-Per-View Point of View, (or PPV POV), here on Online World of Wrestling.com. I’m Jack White and I write the Women’s Wrestling Write-Up here on OWW on a weekly basis and now I’m also your man when it comes to WWE PPVs. What a way to start this new role with none other than the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’, SummerSlam! I was quite sceptical about the show going into it, yet I can safely say that my expectations were surpassed. Without further ado, here’s what I thought of SummerSlam match-by-match and we’re kicking things off with the United States Title match pitting Santino Marella against Antonio Cesaro.

Mr. Paul’s SummerSlam – Final Thoughts!

Tomorrow night the superstars of WWE bring together a show that has taken Hollywood by storm (pardon the pun) over the past few years. This year is no exception. The show is headlined by “The Perfect Storm”, when Triple H takes on Brock Lesnar. This match will be physically intense. It’s going to be as Jim Ross would say a slobber knocker. The show also features a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. CM Punk defends against John Cena and the Big Show. Last Night the World’s Championship match was reinstated. Sheamus will now defend the title against Alberto Del Rio.

From Grantland.com: WWE SummerSlam Preview: The Heel Within

Written by The Masked Man from Grantland.com

Editor’s Note – if you don’t read Grantland.com, you’re missing out on some of the best writing anywhere!

It’s January 23, 1984. Madison Square Garden. It’s the night when Hulk Hogan would first be crowned WWF champion, defeating the despicable Iranian nationalist the Iron Sheik. Your announcers are Gorilla Monsoon and Pat Patterson.1 The action starts — illegally — before the bell even rings:

Gorilla Monsoon: He’s on top of Hogan, pounding away! And Hogan still has his robe on! [ … ] Hogan, down in the center of the ring, still got his ring gear on! The Sheik now has Hogan’s robe — and he clotheslined him with it! Down to the canvas!

Pat Patterson: The Sheik — he’s an animal! [ … ]

Gorilla Monsoon: Finally referee Dick Loetz2 manages to get that robe away from him. And Sheik is saying, “Get on your feet, boy. I want a piece of you.” The Sheik with a big right hand!3 And another! Hulk going for the ride, into the ropes. Sheik up, and a vicious clothesline sends him down, and a knee to the neck area!

[The Sheik gouges Hogan's eyes.]

Gorilla Monsoon: The Sheik will use any means and any way in his power to win this match. Deliberate choke now by the Iron Sheik as referee Dick Loetz steps in and gives him the count! [ … ]

Pat Patterson: Oh! He is actually spitting on Hogan!

The 25 greatest matches in SummerSlam history!

Courtesy of WWE.com:

So what qualifies a match to be labeled as one of the 25 best in the history of SummerSlam?

To tabulate the rankings of SummerSlam’s best bouts, the editorial staff of WWE.com was charged to consider every clash from WWE’s midsummer marquee event with one simple criterion: the match is as important as the moment. So while Ultimate Warrior crushing Honky Tonk Man at the inaugural SummerSlam in just more than 30 seconds was impressive in its own right, the battle’s brevity might pale in comparison to some of Bret “Hit Man” Hart’s best contests or The Undertaker and Edge colliding in a Hell in a Cell Match.
