January 28, 2006 - DISSENSION - Cleveland, Ohio

Night #2 of ROH's Ohio double-shot weekend was wonderful night of good old fasioned wrestling HEAT. Adam Pearce made quick work of FIP regular Jay Fury [who, by the way, I'm looking forward to watching on FIP DVDs]. This match was a footnote to the appearance of Commissioner Jim Cornette, who went from feeling euphoric to expressing his absolute fury, when CZW's Necro Butcher showed his face in the crowd. Cornette & Pearce taunted Butcher until he was forced over the guard rail and unceremoniously ejected from the building by a mob of ROH wrestlers. This would be the last peep out of CZW for the remainder of the night.

The mid-card was stocked with great matches as usual, starting with the returning Jimmy Yang who incredibly pinned Jay Lethal to end his 0-3 ROH losing streak. ( 7.5 / 10 ) It's great that Yang scored a victory but I question the choice of Jay Lethal, who is placed at #1 on the Top 5 Rankings.

Next up we had a crazy 6-Man Tag with Tony Mamaluke & Sal Rinauro teaming up with Delirious to take on Prince Nana's Embassy, made up of Alex Shelley & Jimmy Rave & Abyss. It has to be mentioned, if not only for the sole purpose of making fun, that Sal Rinauro tripped and fell on his butt during his entrance. Good job, buddy! There was no real feud here, just solid action that focused mainly on Rave and Shelley's dissension cause over both wanting to go for the ROH World title. It makes for some pretty interesting scenarios, so it will be fun to see just how these two stable-mates decide to handle it. ( 6.5 / 10 )

Jack Evans bragged that "I'm not scarred!" as he made his way to the ring to face the stiffest man in Ring of Honor, Low Ki. The crowd was of the opinion that Jack was in for a the battle of a lifetime as they chanted "Low Ki's gonna kill you!" It's a shock that Evans did escape with his life, because Ki beat him mercifully for 15 minutes before putting him out of his misery with a pinfall ( 7.5 / 10 ). The rule-book was thrown out the window, or at least stored safely under the mattress, as two of the top feuds in ROH combined into one "Anything Goes" tag team match. Claudio Castagnoli & Ace Steel joined forces to do battle with their respective nemeses - Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer. Thank God Collyer grew his hair back. Good match ( 6 / 10 ).

Lacey managed to bring Jimmy Jacobs & B.J. Whitmer back together for one more title shot against ROH Champions Austin Aries & Roderick Strong. Lacey's Angels fell apart before our very eyes, as Jacobs obsession with Lacey cause their ultimate undoing. Whitmer finally had enough and attacked Jacobs after the match and dumped Lacey once and for all. ( 7.5 / 10 ). Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal put on a fantastic wrestling match, despite both men suffering injuries during the bout. Daniels tweaked his knee, and Sydal hurt his neck but they kept going for another 15 minutes and finished the match. A darn good match too, I might add ( 8 / 10 ).

It was then time for the main event. ROH World Champion, and self proclaimed "best wrestler in the world" American Dragon Bryan Danielson set out to do something he has never done in ROH - that is defeat the Phenomenal AJ Styles. Styles was victorious on two previous occasions, including a 5-star match at Epic Encounter in 2003. I remember watching that ROH video release and from that point on I knew ROH was the future on pro-wrestling. The rematch of 2006 was nothing different, as both men entertained the crowd with great action that fans have become accustomed to when they buy a ticket to see ROH. There was some playfulness inserted into this contest when Dragon offered to shake Styles' hand and for some reason Styles spit in Dragon's palm! Dragon walked around the ring looking at his hand not knowing what to do with his newly acquired loogy. Once again, fantastic match-up between two of the World's greatest athletes. I can't say enough good things about this match and its participants.

Final Thoughts: Oh hell, buy the darn DVD and see for yourself! If you would like to purchase this or any other ROH DVD, please check out ROHwrestling.com - Thank you!
