Introduction

It’s only fitting that this salute to the best tag teams of TNA is hosted by 21 time Tag Team Champions Team 3D, who discuss TNA’s commitment to great tag team wrestling.

Lockdown 2007
Electrified Cage Match

Team 3D
vs.
LAX with Konnan

I thought electrifying the cage was one gimmick too many, but this was still a hard fought, brutal match, and the wrestlers were able to rise above the booking to entertain the fans. Hector Guerrero also gets involved, helping to even things up for Team 3D. Team 3D won the NWA Tag Team Championship for the first time in this match.

Childhood

Brother Ray and Devon talk about their childhoods growing up in Long Island and New Rochelle, NY, respectively. Ray mentions his heroes in wrestling were The Road Warriors and Ric Flair, while Devon’s favorite was Hulk Hogan.

Slammiversary 2007
TNA Tag Team Championship Match

Team 3D
vs.
Rick Steiner & Road Warrior Animal

This was originally scheduled to be 3D vs. The Steiner Brothers, but Scott was seriously injured and could not appear, so Rick brought in a mystery partner, who turned out to be Road Warrior Animal. The crowd exploded when Animal entered, and the wrestlers could have relied on nostalgia alone to make this match. To their credit, they didn’t, and everyone went all out to make this a fun and exciting match for the fans.

Breaking In

Ray and Devon talk about getting their starts in ECW with help from Tommy Dreamer and Johnny Rodz. They go on to talk about their most memorable feuds, and how great ECW was.

Turning Point 2007
Tables Match

Team 3D with Johnny Devine
vs.
The Motor City Machine Guns with Jay Lethal

The power and X Division styles blended well in this high impact match, and the crowd was hot throughout.

One Dollar More

Devon and Ray talk about being recruited to WWE, and that the real reason the left ECW was that they realized that Paul Heyman had turned it into a developmental federation for WWE.

Victory Road 2008
Full Metal Mayhem Match

Christian Cage, AJ Styles & Rhino
vs.
Team 3D & Kurt Angle

Tables, ladders, chairs and chains are all legal in this match, where the stipulation was chosen by the fans. This wild, crazy, and ultra violent match features some amazing high risk moves from AJ Styles and Christian. The fans were cheering and chanting throughout.

Crossing the Line

Ray and Devon discuss leaving WWE when they could not come to an agreement over salaries, and later signing with TNA. They mention considering working in Japan, and say that they liked the idea of working for TNA, an up and coming new company that allows wrestlers to be creative, like ECW. They also credit TNA with allowing them to do so much outside of TNA, such as owning their own wrestling school.

TNA iMPACT 1-3-2008
Tag Team Gauntlet Match

Rock n Rave Infection
vs.
Voodoo Kin Mafia
vs.
Team 3D with Johnny Devine
vs.
Motor City Machine Guns
vs.
LAX

This was an elimination match until there were only two men left. Then the tag team partners of the two men left returned, and it became a tag team match. The tag match at the end was Team 3D vs. The Motor City Machine Guns. This match was somewhat difficult to follow, but there was plenty of action. It’s not for the wrestling purists, but it’s entertaining.

Legacy in Blood

They talk about their longevity in the business, and say that they will stick around as long as they are having fun, and thank the fans for their support.

Motor City Machine Guns

Childhood

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley talk about growing up and being wrestling fans. They discuss being competitive and playing sports as teens.

TNA iMPACT 5-10-2007

Motor City Machine Guns
vs.
Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt

Two talented teams went all out in this X Division style tag match, which is a big plus here, especially for fans who are new to TNA, and may not have seen this match before.

Inspirations

Shelley and Sabin talk about their inspirations from Japanese and US wrestling, and starting off at a wrestling school that wasn’t very good, and eventually joining Scott D’Amore’s wrestling school.

Genesis 2007

Motor City Machine Guns
vs.
Team 3D

This match was part of the story line when Team 3D was trying to get rid of the X Division. 3D did a great job of putting over the Guns in this hard fought, brutal match. It’s a must see for fans of 3D and the Guns alike.

Crossing the Line

Sabin and Shelley talk about starting out on the indy scene and signing with TNA.

TNA iMPACT! 12-27-2008

Motor City Machine Guns
vs.
AJ Styles & Tomko

Styles and Tomko were the Tag Team Champions at the time of this match, but this was a non-title match. This was another match where superior wrestling allowed the match to rise above poor booking. This match is best enjoyed if you just concentrate on the great action and ignore the silly storyline about AJ Styles not being able to make a decision on which faction to join.

The TNA X Division

The Guns discuss training and learning different styles of wrestling to prepare for working the X Division style. They also talk about breaking into wrestling, and having to work at places like Subway to pay the bills while working your way up.

TNA iMPACT! 1-10-2008

Senshi & Elix Skipper
vs.
Motor City Machine Guns

Four talented X Division technicians pull out all the stops in this short but exciting high flying contest.

Gun Making

Sabin and Shelley talk about their first ever tag team match and becoming a tag team in TNA.

TNA iMPACT! 6-12-2008
World X Cup Preview Match

Speed Muscle (Team Japan – from Dragon Gate)
vs.
Motor City Machine Guns (Team USA)

This is a must see for all fans of X Division wrestling and Japanese wrestling. It’s truly outstanding, with lots of speed, submission holds, high flying and even power moves mixed to perfection.

Favorite Feuds

Sabin and Shelley talk about their favorite feuds and favorite opponents in TNA.

TNA iMPACT! 10-30-2008

Tanahashi & Volador
vs.
Motor City Machine Guns

This is another classic X Division tag match, with a great combination of speed, submission holds, and high flying.

Future for Guns

Shelley says that he’d be very happy if they are recognized as an updated modern version of the Midnight Express. They discuss their future and the future of tag team wrestling, and the way TNA and their wrestlers are working to bring it back.

Beer Money Inc. Introduction

Childhood

Robert Roode and James Storm discuss their very different childhoods, with Storm growing up in Tennessee, and Roode growing up in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Roode mentions that Curt Hennig was his major influence in wrestling.

Hard Justice 2008
TNA Tag Team Championship Match

Beer Money Inc. with Jacqueline
vs.
LAX with Salinas & Hector Guerrero (C)

I was ringside for this vicious match, and it was great to see it again. I can assure you that the Trenton, NJ, crowd was every bit as hot as they seem to be in the video, and if you ever get a chance to see a live TNA show, you owe it to yourself to go.

Breaking In

Storm and Roode talk about getting training as wrestlers, and their struggles and pitfalls trying to break into the business.

No Surrender 2008
TNA Tag Team Championship Match

Beer Money Inc. with Jacqueline (C)
vs.
LAX with Hector Guerrero

These two teams work so well together that I hope they have another feud in the future. This is another excellent tag team battle.

Time for a Beer Run

They discuss their progress in TNA, working as singles, and how they became a tag team. Roode talks about being the enforcer of Team Canada, and mentions that he modeled himself on Arn Anderson. Storm talks about being part of America’s Most Wanted.

Bound for Glory 2008
Monster’s Ball Match for the TNA Tag Team Championship

Beer Money Inc. (C)
vs.
LAX with Konnan
vs.
Team 3D
vs.
Matt Morgan & Abyss

Steve “Mongo” McMichael was the special guest referee for this no holds barred match. There were weapons in trash cans at ringside, and they were all used in this brutal, bloody brawl. This will be a hit with fans of hardcore.

Beer Money’s Legacy

Storm says he’d like to be remembered as “a tough SOB, and he entertained the hell out of us.” Roode says he wants to stay in the business for as long as he can, and be remembered as one of the top wrestlers to ever step inside a ring.

Genesis 2009
Electrified Cage Match

Beer Money Inc.
vs.
Matt Morgan & Abyss
vs.
Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed (C)

Six man tag matches are very different from traditional four man tags, and TNA has provided several examples in this collection. My preference is for regular four man tags, as they tend to use psychology more efficiently and tell better stories, but TNA made good choices for this collection, and this match is also packed with fun and action.

LAX Childhood

Homicide talks about growing up in New York, and Hernandez recalls growing up in Texas. They discuss their favorite wrestlers and how they got interested in wrestling.

Against All Odds 2007
Little Italy Street Fight Match

Team 3D
vs.
LAX with Konnan

Both teams specialize in hardcore violence, and that’s what you get in this match. One of the best spots is Hernandez diving over the top rope into a chair shot from Devon. The weapons include a pizza cutter that Homicide uses on Devon, and a cheese grater that Brother Ray uses on Homicide in return in this wild and bloody brawl.

Breaking Into the Business

I especially enjoyed hearing Homicide talk about his start in the business, since I saw so many of his pre-TNA indy appearances in the NJ area. Another feature local fans will like is the appearance of some of his many local wrestling students, thanking their teacher.

Destination X 2007
Ghetto Brawl Match

Team 3D with Johnny Rodz
vs.
LAX with Konnan

I wish this match had not been included, as there was FAR too much outside interference, with two gangs, Konnan, Johnny Rodz and Alex Shelley all getting involved. This match may hold the record for the most schmozzed finish in history.

By this time I was getting tired of all the hardcore, and wishing for at least a couple of matches from the earlier TNA tag teams, like America’s Most Wanted, AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, The Naturals, Team Canada, or Triple X. I understand they want to put over their current teams, but some of the people featured on this dvd were in some of those teams, and I would have liked to actually see them, instead of just hearing them mentioned.

Crossing the Line

LAX talk about coming to TNA and forming their tag team. Hernandez mentions the terrific matches they had with Styles and Daniels, and I couldn’t help but think I would have liked to see one of those on this set.

Bound for Glory 2007
Ultimate X Match

Senshi and Elix Skipper of Triple X
vs.
LAX with Konnan

Finally! An X Division style match with Triple X. The high flying action and acrobatics are a very welcome breath of fresh air at this point in the dvd. I do wish they had mentioned that Senshi was one of Homicide’s students, but maybe it was omitted since he’s now with WWE, so they couldn’t get comments from him. The fans frequently chant “This is awesome!” during the match, and I agree.

Future for LAX

Homicide says they want to accomplish something no one else has. They both discuss how much it means to them to be Hispanic stars, and representing their community in wrestling. They are proud to be role models and show that you can achieve your dream.

Victory Road 2008
Fans’ Revenge Match for the Tag Team Championship

Beer Money Inc. with Jacqueline
vs.
LAX with Salinas & Hector Guerrero

There’s nothing scientific about this match, but it’s an example of something TNA does very well — involving the fans, as a select group of fans get to participate as lumberjacks with straps outside the ring. It’s fun to watch, and I’m sure those fans had a ball at this special event from the most fan-friendly wrestling promotion I know of.

BONUS

TNA iMPACT! 11-20-2008

Sonjay Dutt & Hiroshi Tanahashi with SoCal Val
vs.
Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed

I was pleased to see that they chose this X Division style match as one of the extras. Dutt and Tanahashi weren’t an established tag team, but they worked well together, and this was an energetic, high impact match.

TNA iMPACT! 1-8-2009

TNA Tag Team Championship Match
Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed
vs.
Beer Money Inc. with Jacqueline

Seeing that Roode was injured, Lethal and Creed cashed in their Feast or Fired briefcase for a shot at the Tag Titles and won, much to the delight of the fans.

As a long time fan of tag team wrestling, I enjoyed this dvd very much. I recommend the set to all fans of the great tag teams. It’s currently available at ShopTNA.com and major DVD retailers.
