WWE NEWS

4/21 ECW TV results from London, England: Hornswoggle over Natalya, Evan Bourne over Paul Burchill, and Kozlov over Frankie Sloan.

Nothing much to the show. It’s a shame one of the best female workers on the roster doesn’t get to wrestle other workers. Sloan was a UK indie vet they brought in for Kozlov to squash. He also worked the TNA X-Cup in 2004 as part of Team Britain.

4/21 Raw house show results from Cardiff, Wales: Cryme Tyme over Charlie Hass & Mike Knox; The Miz over Kofi Kingston; John Morrison over Goldust; Kelly Kelly & Melina over Layla & Beth Phoenix; Rey Mysterio over William Regal; and John Cena b Chris Jericho.

We’re told the crowd in Cardiff was really hot all night. Miz did his research as he got a lot of heat for ripping on the local soccer team.
Regal got the most heat. It seems the Welsh don’t like the English.
During the intermission they announced return dates in November for the Undertaker and DX reunion tours. Match of the night was Cena-Jericho.

We’re looking for reports from the WWE shows today in Liverpool and Birmingham, England to [email protected]

NFL legend and WWE Hall of Famer William “The Refrigerator” Perry, 46, has been hospitalized in South Carolina and is listed in serious condition suffering from symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome, an immune disorder.

We’re told by someone in WWE that the reason Melina was so upset and started crying after being drafted to Smackdown was because she and John Morrison have recently started dating again. She thought that they would be seperated with the draft but afterwards that turned out not to be the case.

Kane vs. CM Punk has been added to Backlash. I am still expecting them to add something with the Diva’s.

Jeff Hardy posted on what is believed to be his Facebook (although most of these have to be taken with a grain of salt) that his contract expires in July and he’s taking it “day-to-day” on whether he will sign an extension.

The Miami Herald’s Jim Varsallone at http://tinyurl.com/dz2hqn wonders if Hulk Hogan was misquoted over his OJ Simpson comments in Rolling Stone, and compares it to the deal with John Cena on CNN in 2007.

The dark match at yesterday’s TV taping in London was Umaga, returning from injury, over R Truth. There was also a post-taping cage match with Triple H over Randy Orton. After the show WWE staffers were handing out flyers for the UK DVD release of Behind Enemy Lines. (Thanks to Brian
James)

Some celebrities were spotted at Raw TV in London including Chelsea soccer star Ashley Cole and his wife Cheryl, who is also quite popular over there.

Raw on Monday night scored a 3.7 rating off hours of 3.6 and 3.9 averaging 5.3 million viewers.

In the latest WWE Magazine, Randy Orton (almost in character) talks about Manu being released: “Respect, that’s something that Manu, who had a chance to be part of Legacy, didn’t have. He grew up in the business, and you would’ve thought he’d have that ingrained in his mind. He had been wrestling since his early teens, and he thought that he was already a veteran in his early 20s. That’s what got him fired from Legacy. But I think we’re looking to include another part man in the stable to make it all the more powerful. I’ll say no more.”

For some reason I found this hilarious — http://tinyurl.com/cereq6

The Wrestlemania 25 DVD extras include the entire Hall of Fame ceremony, the Carlito & Primo vs. Miz & John Morrison tag title match, and highlights from all 24 past Wrestlemania’s. The DVD goes on sale in June.

Globe reader Winster Ceballos sent in this note: “I was listening to a Spanish radio station, and they were talking about people with bad habits. One of the hosts said that when John Cena visited them, he had a very bad smell from his mouth. The female host said that it was so bad that it looked like he did not brush his teeth or something. She offered him several times coffee and some other stuff but he denied.”

Nick Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) talks about his training as an amateur wrestler and WWE developmental at www.NickNemeth.net

Carlito is now a Canadian citizen due to a new law that states if one of your parents is born in Canada, you become an automatic citizen. Carlito’s mother was Canadian.

WWE returns to the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii on 7/5.

Chris Jericho’s band Fozzy is releasing their new album in June.

WWE combines the ratings of Superstars and the morning replay at http://tinyurl.com/d62wvf to give them over a million viewers on WGN.
Superstars is also apparently Joey Styles favorite show.

TNA NEWS

Paul London and Amazing Red were booked to debut as a tag team at
yesterday’s Impact tapings. Red was backstage and ready to go but London
cancelled citing a back injury. TNA aren’t very happy with him right
now. Their story is that he asked for more money, was refused, and then
the back injury became an issue.

Conflicting stories regarding Bobby Lashley. He hasn’t signed a contract
contrary to reports elsewhere. He will be working TV’s per appearance
for the time being but they may come to terms providing the schedule
fits with his MMA aspiriations. Lashley said of TNA in an XFC press
release: “With TNA, I’m only working four days a month. And with the
extra income from wrestling, I can take care of my family and afford to
fully dedicate myself to my MMA training… I’m no different than so
many young fighters: I still need a day job, because MMA training is
expensive – especially when you want to travel to different camps and
learn from the top minds in the game.”

The Lashley-Bob Sapp fight on 6/27 in Mississippi is tentative as Sapp
has the contract but is yet to sign.

80s NWA star Bugsy McGraw was visiting backstage yesterday at the TNA
tapings. McGraw now lives and works as a nurse in Tampa. He will be
appearing at the upcoming NWA Legends fanfest in Charlotte. More info at
www.nwalegends.com

Sarah Stock worked a dark match at the tapings against Awesome Kong.

Former WWE wrestler Trevor Murdoch debuts this week on Impact. He tags with Eric Young under a new name.

Jim Cornette, who once said “hell would freeze over” before he joined
the Internet, has launched a new website at www.jimcornette.com to push
his book on the Midnight Express. He also wrote a blog at
http://tinyurl.com/c78kkx pretty much ripping on the WWE creative team.
He raises some really good points but sadly it’s hard to take serious
when he works under Vince Russo and draws a TNA pay check.

Cornette had one of the more crazy TNA travel schedules this week as he
doesn’t fly. He drove from Kentucky to Philadelphia for the PPV on
Sunday, and then straight to Orlando, FL for the TV tapings.

Former WWE wrestler Gene Snitsky was spotted hanging out with several
TNA talent at a bar following the PPV. One source told us he was asking
for work.

A couple of upcoming DVD release dates: Second to None – TNA Tag Teams
on 5/5 and the Lockdown PPV on 6/16.

The promotional post for the Sacrifice PPV is up at
http://tinyurl.com/c94pyg

There is talk of the Slammiversary PPV being on the road in Detroit.

OTHER NEWS

Juventud Guerrera announced at a press conference in Mexico on 4/17 that he is going to file a lawsuit against Konnan and Jack Evans for beating
him up in a locker room altercation several weeks ago.

There was a health scare following the Cauliflower Alley Club convention
this past weekend in Las Vegas. J.J. Dillon collapsed and medics were
called to the scene. Some thought he suffered a heart attack but luckily
it was dehydration and he was okay a short time later.

Rapper Yannique Barker aka Stack$ is dating Brooke Hogan, according to
several gossip columns. One blurb read: “Brooke Hogan was filming her
new music video along with new boyfriend rapper Yannique Barker Stack$.
Looks like Brooke Hogan is following her moms example, except instead of
dating men half her age she dates guys half her size.” A picture of the
odd-looking couple is at http://tinyurl.com/dcd3ga

Diamond Dallas Page at www.ddpbang.com has a blog up looking back at the WWE Hall of Fame.

HDNet at http://tinyurl.com/c96n2f released a commercial featuring Ric
Flair
promoting his Ring of Honor TV appearance on 5/2.

The Poughkeepsie Journal’s Phil Strum at http://tinyurl.com/cw2nbj
interviewed Flair… On who should be in the WWE Hall of Fame, who isn’t
already in: “As soon as possible, Arn Anderson. But of course, I’m
prejudiced. He’s got to be on a ballot soon. It’s really harder each
year to find main event guys. That’s just the business. Not everybody
got to that level. Last year, at the Hall of Fame, I said that the
biggest star in the history of pro wrestling was Steve Austin. I wasn’t
just blowing smoke. It wasn’t Hulk in the 80s. Steve clearly set a
standard, I thought.”

The Politico website at http://tinyurl.com/cd67ef interviewed Dwayne
Johnson about his political aspirations and more.

Rob Van Dam was on Fox News the other night pushing the legalization of
marijuana.

There is a wrestling documentary looking at the history of wrestling in
the Central States area this Thursday at Memorial Hall in Kansas City.
