WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

7/6 Raw TV results from San Jose, CA: Chris Jericho & Edge over The Colons in a non-title match; Gail Kim & Mickie James over Maryse & Alicia Fox; Mark Henry over Cody Rhodes via CO; Randy Orton over Ted DiBiase Jr; Evan Bourne over Kofi Kingston in a non-title match; and Triple H vs. John Cena was a no contest.

Really enjoyed this show. Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase was great in the guest GM role and we got a PPV quality main event. Big news is that Night of Champions will now be Orton vs. Triple H vs. Cena in a three-way for the spinning belt. Also added is Edge & Chis Jericho vs.
The Legacy for the tag titles. They did the break up of Carlito and Primo, with Carlito as the heel and Primo as the babyface. A two-week build to the split of an established tag team is way too short. Divas match was solid and might be a candidate for the best women’s match on TV so far this year. Henry beat Rhodes via count out when Rhodes ran away after a world’s strongest slam. Its taken 13 years to do something meaningful with Henry on the A-show, but unfortunately, from what I hear, this may be his last run. Orton-DiBiase Jr. had some interesting moments as they continue to tease DiBiase breaking away from Legacy.
MVP-Swagger started a new program based on Swagger bringing up MVP’s criminal past. Bourne-Kingston concluded with Big Show coming out and beating them both up. The idea of a three-way for the U.S. title is strangely intriguing to me. Triple H-Cena had a great match. Legacy ran in and the ref ruled a no contest. Orton then came out and said since there was no winner he wouldn’t face either of them at the PPV. DiBiase Sr. soon changed that by announcing a three-way for the title as the show went off the air. After the cameras stopped rolling DiBiase Sr.
gave Jr. a receipt for the slap earlier in the show.

7/7 Raw house show results from Melbourne, Australia: Goldust over The Brian Kendrick; Sheamus over Jamie Noble; Santino over Chavo Guerrero; Cody Rhodes over Carlito; Kofi Kingston over William Regal & The Miz in a three-way; Big Show over MVP; Mickie James over Mayrse in a non title match; and Triple H over Randy Orton via DQ when The Legacy interfered.

7/7 Smackdown/ECW house show results from Tokyo, Japan: John Morrison over Dolph Ziggler; Mark Henry over Evan Bourne; Michelle McCool over Melina; Great Khali over Shelton Benjamin; Tommy Dreamer over Jack Swagger & Christian; Rey Mysterio over Chris Jericho; and CM Punk over Jeff Hardy.

We’re looking for reports from the Raw show tomorrow in Perth as well as from the Smackdown/ECW show in Tokyo to [email protected].

There is no ECW tonight on the newly named SyFy. The show airs instead this week on Thursday at the earlier start time of 7pm so it doesn’t go head-to-head with Impact.

The injury to MVP last night in Adelaide didn’t turn out to be serious as he worked today in Melbourne.

However, Ted DiBiase Jr. has picked up a significant knock, I believe to his shoulder. He hasn’t worked the last three shows and currently has his arm in a sling.

Edge underwent surgery today to repair his torn Achilles heel tendon.
The operation was performed by world-renowned surgeon Dr. James Andews at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, AL. No timeline has been set for a return to the ring but the company is under the impression he will be out for at least six months, probably longer. Several ideas have been tossed around as to how they will handle the tag title situation. One idea that got out was for him to be replaced at Night of Champions by Dolph Ziggler as they are very high on him right now. Another idea is to do a phantom attack during the PPV leading to Jericho either defending the titles in a handicap match or finding another partner. I would assume that the latter suggestion is now out of the window as WWE.com posted a story ackowledging that Edge was injured in San Diego and would be undergoing surgery.

I have a story on Jerry Lawler at http://tinyurl.com/lyhlfm who is contemplating running for Mayor in Memphis. He said he will announce his decision later this week and is “testing the waters” to see what kind of public support there is for him in the city.

Jim Ross at www.jrsbarbq.com doesn’t seem to be too taken with the idea.
Ross wrote in his blog today: “Jerry Lawler can’t be serious about running for Mayor of Memphis again. Can he? Why King Why? If Lawler becomes Mayor of Memphis and if somebody in Hollywood doesn’t produce a reality show on it or document King’s term for a feature length film someone is not paying attention. Just say no Jerry.” I am sure that was more a friendly dig rather than an objection.

Ross has also updated the Q&A section of his website. When asked about his contract status with WWE, he replied: “I really don’t know. That question should be answered by the end of this year at the latest.” One must assume that his current deal is up in the near future and an extension is yet to be negotiated.

After we broke the news about his abdominal surgery, Matt Hardy at
http://tinyurl.com/m8ghv3 wrote a long Myspace blog detailing his recent injury problems. He said for the last two years he has worked with a slight abdominal tear that gradually became worse. He also talked about having his appendix removed. He said due to the abdominal injury becoming worse his intestines exploded out through his abdominal wall during the three-way with MVP and Kofi Kingston in Green Bay on 6/22. He said he had to undergo the surgery as a result or face major health problems that could have killed him.

The 10/25 PPV that was renamed Annihilation has been changed back to Cyber Sunday. I am guessing this is because WWE.com traffic is down and the PPV and build up drove significant hits to the site. The funny thing is that although traffic is down WWE.com revenue is almost exactly the same.

The 7/2 edition of Superstars did a 0.9 rating.

WWE programming in Italy is currently off the air while a new TV deal is worked out. Italy used to be a hot territory for WWE a few years ago with Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio regarded as the biggest stars. The company hasn’t scheduled any live events in the country for the foreseeable while the next Eurpean tour has multiple dates in the UK, France and Germany.

There is a story on WWE visiting New Zealand at
http://tinyurl.com/koxev8 with an interview and photo of Kelly Kelly and MVP with the national rugby team.

WWE has announced the travel packages for Wrestlemania 26 next year in Phoenix. All the packages appear to be more expensive than last year with slightly less bang for your buck. Where as the packages this year contained two tickets to Fan Axxess next years only contains one ticket.
A Platinum package costs $1,895 which gets you one ticket to Wrestlemania within the first 10 ringside rows; one ticket to Axxess; one ticket to the Hall of Fame; a collectible chair; plus three-night accommodations at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel (which I can assure you will be a LONG way away from the WWE hotel).

Hall of Famer Ernie Ladd will be inducted into Grambling University’s Sports Hall of Fame in Monroe, LA on 7/18. Ladd will be inducted for football and wrestling. He played college football at Grambling before being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1961.

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS

More on referee Rudy Charles leaving the company. Contrary to reports else where he was released and didn’t quit. His primary job at TNA was as an assistant to the creative/booking team, but his job was recently made redundant and they opted not to retain him as a referee. A lot of his friends were upset about the decision as he had been with TNA since its inception in 2002 and was one of the few remaining originals. One TNA wrestler told us that they thought the story was a rib when they found out as he was very well liked.

Super Crazy is coming in for a tryout at the 8/22 house show in Laredo, TX. Since his departure from WWE, Crazy has been working in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Japan.

The 7/2 edition of Impact did a 1.2 rating.

Tara (Victoria) posted a new blog. She noted she was offered a fight in September against a well-known women’s MMA star but didn’t know whether she would take it. She wrote: “It is a great opportunity… we are discussing whether I can be ready for a fighter at that level this soon.”

The Motor City Machine Guns dropped the IWGP Jr. tag titles on Monday to Ryusuke Taguch & Prince Devitt at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.

Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed will be appearing at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant in Buffalo on Wednesday night, from 5-6pm.

Christy Hemme is doing an autograph signing at Miller’s Collectors Corner in Swansea, IL just outside of St. Louis on 7/18. For more info you can call 618-234-3299.

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Greg Oliver at http://tinyurl.com/lnfhsp has a nice article on Wally Seiber, better known as Waldo Von Erich, who passed away at 75 on Sunday at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. Torrie Wilson is in Las Vegas this week for business meetings. She was invited to play in the World Series Of Poker as a celebrity guest but was knocked out in under five hours.

More on indy wrestler Matt Riviera who will be appearing on a new VH-1 reality show called Megan Wants A Millionaire. Apparently his family own a gravel company in Russellville, AR which may well be worth $5 million.
As far as working indy shows nobody has really heard of him although we’ve heard from some promoters he has called trying to get booked. You can check out a trailer for the show which premieres in August at http://tinyurl.com/lrn4kf.

Former WWE star Mike Brendli, better known as Mikey from the Spirit Squad, failed a drugs test on 3/21 at an OVW event in Elizabethtown, KY.
After postponing two hearings with the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority, on 6/29 he was suspended for six months and given a $100 fine. Brendli was released from his WWE contract in June 2008; two weeks after he was arrested in Florida on a DUI charge.

For fans of Brock Lesnar and UFC there is a UFC 100 countdown show tonight on Spike. Apparently there is an awesome segment where Lesnar gets mad during an interview, ends the interview, and then punches a wall in a hallway so hard that a door falls of its hinges. Someone who has already seen the show told us Frank Mir cuts some great promos building up to the fight on Saturday.

Rob Van Dam at http://tinyurl.com/nusll6 on his latest radio show joked that when he dies he wants to stream his funeral live over the Internet.
His wife and co-host Sonya said that would be “too weird” but thought RVD was now going to put this in his will as a last request. Marty Jannetty and Sabu also called into the show.

The WWC group in Puerto Rico announced on their TV show that WWE pulled MVP from their Anniversary show on Saturday. Instead, they are allowing Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy) to appear in his place, despite the 90-day no compete. He faces fellow former WWE wrestler Umaga.

Former WWE Diva Dawn Marie wrote a blog about her weight gain. She said before she had her two children she was in the best shape of her life at 130lbs but by the time she had her second child she had ballooned to over 200lbs. She said she plans to share her battle to get back down to a target of 140lbs online through her Myspace and Twitter. Her story is at http://tinyurl.com/l5rhfc.

A rep for Joanie “Chyna” Laurer emailed us saying that Laurer has signed a music deal with Virgin Records Company.

NWA Charlotte has shut down again. Owner J.D. Costello blamed “tremendous financial loss” which forced the group to cease operations.

Hulk Hogan called into the Bubba radio show in Tampa on Monday. He said he and his wife Linda are now on talking terms, which sounds like good news for Hogan in his ongoing divorce.
