WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee featuring the go home show to the upcoming Night of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for this Sunday night in Houston.

Advertised for tonight: Nikki Bella attempts to break the record for longest Divas title reign but Charlotte stands in her way, and much, much more!

WWE Signature and a recap of Sting‘s shenanigans from last week’s Raw

The Authority comes out to start the show.

Stephanie McMahon welcomes us to the season premiere of Raw. She then starts naming off various superstars and women who made a mark on WWE. Triple H says that the next generation will take the wrestling world by storm.

Who will lead this movement? You guessed it: Seth Rollins, will have an opportunity to cement his legacy by facing John Cena AND Sting in the same night come Night of Champions.

Steph starts talking about the women, and we are guaranteed to see history when Nikki Bella defends her Divas Title against Charlotte, which is hyped as one of the biggest Divas matches in history (Takeover will like a word next month…)

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! STING IS WRESTLING Big Show tonight….yay.

So…are you ready?

WWE tag team title match: The Primetime Players vs. WWE tag team champions The New Day

Before the commercial, Steph and Trips get down with The New Day. After the commercial, Big E makes imaginary snow angels as Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston hurdle him.

This was a pretty fun back-and-forth match that we’ve seen a few times before. After a while of Titus O’Neil owning a hot tag, Xavier Woods provided a distraction after Clash of the Titus was landed. Outside, Kingston hit Darren Young with Trouble in Paradise. O’Neil is soon hit with New Day’s double-team finisher for the pin.

Winners: The New Day

Moral of the story here: Do not touch Xavier Woods’ trombone. Also, The Dudleys come out for a staredown as the segment ends.

Backstage, Trips and Steph are celebrating New Day’s win when Seth Rollins comes in to do his thing. Rollins brings up how Big Show will destroy Sting tonight. That leaves a couple issues: John Cena and Sheamus. Logical solution? John Cena vs Sheamus.

Recap of last week’s Divas angle with the Curtis Axel-approved Bellatron and the eventual Bellabration.

Renee Young interviews Charlotte and Ric Flair about Charlotte’s upcoming match. Charlotte talks about both her dream of becoming Divas Champion as well as her father being by her side for her first main-roster title match. Ric Flair hypes the women’s division before saying that Nikki and Charlotte are going to rock the house tonight. Charlotte also says that the Bella Army will crumble to Natural Selection.

Paige vs. Sasha Banks

This was a pretty good match with Sasha working over Paige’s arm extremely well. Paige also got in some good offense with some sick kicks and a vicious German. The end came after Paige missed a rolling senton when Tamina yanked Sasha out of Paige’s path. Back inside, Sasha locks the Bank Statement for the win.

Winner: Sasha Banks

Afterwards, Team BAD destroys Paige and Becky Lynch.

A video for Connor’s Cure is aired.

It’s time for MizTV. The Miz hypes the season premiere before hyping his illustrious career.

He’s gone mad now: his guests are The Wyatt Family.

Miz tells The Wyatts to make themselves at home, and Luke Harper and Braun Strowman dump their chairs as Bray Wyatt sits. Wyatt tells Miz not to sit as he is not safe.

After Miz clarifies that he won’t be Ambreigns’ partner at Night of Champions, he asks Wyatt who Strowman is. Wyatt responds by telling Miz to ask Strowman. Miz asks Strowman, and Strowman removes his mask, terrorizing Miz.

Miz asks Wyatt what he wants from all this, and Wyatt wants everyone to suffer and understand that they all fall down.

At this moment, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose come out sans their mystery partner.

Miz introduces everyone in the ring just to get dumped out by Ambrose. Ambreigns and The Wyatt Family have a staredown for a few moments before Reigns says that Wyatt makes him sick for thinking he’s the king of the world and also for taking out Randy Orton and Jimmy Uso.

Reigns then tells Wyatt that he isn’t a real man since he can’t beat Reigns one-on-one; Wyatt is forced to use his monstrous henchmen to get his way instead.

Small problem for The Wyatts: Ambreigns have a partner, and there will be an ass-kicking at Night of Champions.

The teams trade words as the segment ends.

John Cena vs. Sheamus

This was a very fun and physical match that saw these two hit each other with big move after big move after big move. At the end, Cena is hit with a rolling senton from Sheamus, but Cena springs back up and lands the AA for the win.

Winner: John Cena

Ryback is in the ring to return from commercial.

Ryback says that he’s proud to be Intercontinental Champion before going for the Memphis cheap pop. Ryback then focuses his attention on Kevin Owens, who interfered on SmackDown to cost Ryback his match on SmackDown.

Ryback tells Kevin Owens that he has no respect for a true champion or what it means to be a champion.

Right on cue, Kevin Owens comes out.

Owens says that he has something to share with Ryback. Owens references Ryback’s mentioning of a book called The Secret a few months back. So Kevin Owens checked it out, and he feels sorry for those who believe that garbage.

Ryback calls Owens garbage, and Owens continues to own Ryback by calling The Secret a crutch for weak people like Ryback (the strongest weak guy in the locker room). Owens then calls it a travesty that Ryback is champion after throwing the book away.

After Owens finishes, Ryback explains his lifestyle (unlimited energy, feed me more, and all that) before briefly comparing Owens’s ascent to WWE to that of his own before his injury. However, Ryback climbed back to the top from his injury, and now he’s the Intercontinental Champion.

Owens then promises that he is going to take the IC Title from Ryback and prove that he’s a weak little boy.

And at Night of Champions, we’re getting Kevin Owens vs. Ryback for the IC Title

A brief “Feed Me More” chant goes before a brief staredown ensues. After a few moments, Owens leaves.

Stardust (with The Ascension) vs Neville (with Lucha Dragons) never starts as everyone brawls before The Cosmic Wasteland leaves.

A Nikki Bella promo airs regarding her imminent breaking of AJ Lee‘s championship streak.

WWE Divas title match: WWE Divas champion Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte

The Curtis Axel-approved Bellatron is ticking as this match goes.

This was a pretty good match for a good while with Nikki working Charlotte’s left arm very well. Charlotte did mount a comeback and did get a pinfall….on Brie Bella.

As Charlotte, Paige, Becky Lynch, and Ric Flair celebrate, Stephanie comes out and reverses the decision: Charlotte wins by DQ, so Nikki still retains, assuring her breaking of AJ Lee’s record. However, Charlotte WILL get a rematch at Night of Champions, and if Nikki loses in ANY way, she loses the title.

Winner by disqualification: Charlotte

Rusev vs. Cesaro

This was a pretty quick match that was pretty good for what it was. Rusev lost via a creative Cesaro roll-up after Dolph Ziggler came out to give something to Hot Summer.

Winner: Cesaro

After the match, Ziggler superkicked Rusev. Hot Summer and Rusev left soon after (Summer also took her little gift with her).

Backstage, Rusev is raging as Summer is trying to beg for his forgiveness. Rusev goes into his locker room and slams the door. Outside, Summer stealthily opens her gift just in time for Rusev to bang the door and command her inside.

A few matches for Night of Champions are announced: The Cosmic Wasteland vs Neville and the Lucha Dragons, Kevin Owens vs Ryback, and The New Day vs The Dudley Boyz.

Backstage, Steph and Trips talk about Nikki Bella breaking AJ Lee’s record when Big Show enters. Steph tells Big Show about the hype for Sting wrestling tonight. After that match, however, everyone will be talking about how Big Show solved the problem of Sting.

Sting vs. Big Show

The Authority is ringside for this.

Well, for a few minutes, we actually got a decent little match…until Seth Rollins comes down to attack Sting, causing a DQ.

Winner by disqualification: Sting

Show and Rollins beat down Sting until Cena comes down for a save. You can guess what’s next…

Sting and John Cena vs. Big Show and WWE world heavyweight champion and WWE United States champion Seth Rollins

This was about what you would expect: Cena taking loads of punishment from Show and Rollins, and Sting eventually getting the hot tag. The end comes when Show gets AA’d by Cena. Rollins tries to follow with a Pedigree to Cena, but Sting delivers a Scorpion Deathdrop followed by the Scorpion Deathlock, forcing Rollins to tap out.

Winners: Sting and John Cena

Sting and Cena celebrate to end.
