WRESTLING COLUMNS
Tradition Rules Sports Entertainment SUCKS!

This week iam going to be talking about the month that was November in the wrestling world. First of all I would like to talk about MLW. November was not a good month for MLW at all. They cancelled shows and people thought they were finished. Now MLW are planning on running Philadelphia and New Jersey. Phili is very much like the US Japan with lots of promotions running in the Phil area. I think this is a huge mistake on MLWs behalf as if the Phili fans want technical and highflying action they have ROH, which has pretty much the same roster as MLW. If the fans want a hardcore wrestling brand they have CZW if they want an ECW style hardcore they have 3PW. One good sign is that MLW have signed some good workers for 2004 such as Bryan Danielson, Michael Modest, TJ Wilson, Jack Evans, Homicide, Low Ki. However all of the above mentioned have at one stage appeared in ROH. Another fault of MLW is that they have signed Teddy Hart who is a huge troublemaker not to mention he has serious heat with CM Punk and Steve Corino who are 2 of MLW main stars. I personally think MLW is a great promotion they were doing so well this year until October and November. I have heard Mr. Bauer is a bit of an asshole so I hope he knows what he's doing, as he does not want to lose wrestlers and fans. Lets hope that next year will be a great year for MLW. On a more positive note Court Bauer claimed that he got carried away and that MLW is taking baby steps once more. If you have any thoughts on MLW please email me.

ROH. In my eyes ROH is the undisputed king of the Indy's. The last 2 ROH shows were something extremely special. Samoa Joe defeated AJ Styles in what is talked about as one of the greatest ROH Title matches of all time.
Homicide and Steve Corino also had a sick barbwire match. Also it seems that ROH are pushing a feud with CM Punk Vs Chris Daniels, which should be tremendous.
I am a huge mark for Chris Daniels as I think he is pound for pound the greatest wrestler alive he can mat wrestle, fly, brawl go hardcore plus he is extremely charismatic but unfortunately he is suffering the same fate as Dynamite Kid and Chris Benoit suffered he is being kept down in a lot of Indy's due to his size. CM Punk is also another one of my favorites. The first time I saw CM Punk was when he fought Chris Hero in the now infamous TLC match for IWA Mid South. The match was out of this world it was around this time that I started watching a lot more Indy's and WWE became embarrassing to watch. CM Punk has had some fantastic matches with perhaps the most over Indy wrestler around Raven. If I were a promoter my promotion would be based around CM Punk, Chris Daniels and Homicide. ROH should benefit extremely from a Chris Daniels Vs CM Punk feud. Unfortunately last month wasn't too good for ROH with a lot of locker room mishaps with the trouble making Teddy Hart. ROH is great in a way that it doesn't push the huge names as it pushes people on their talent and that's it. However I do not understand why they have not given former NWA World Champion AJ Styles the ROH title. The NWA championship is the longest running and probably the most meaningful title in the world. Plus AJ is probably one of the top 5 greatest Wrestlers in America. Next year I have big hopes for ROH especially with the new wrestling channel in the UK offering ROH a deal. I could watch ROH all day everyday.

NWATNA the number 2 promotion in the states. Unfortunately TNA has really lost its touch ever since Russo, Banks and Mantel became the Creative team. TNA Is going for a much more sports entertainment approach which I really can't stand.

When TNA first came around I couldn't get enough of it When I first saw matches featuring Americas Most Wanted, Low Ki, AJ Styles, Chris Daniels and Jerry Lynn I became a total wrestling snob as every thing else I saw was just terrible compared to the X division matches. TNA soon caught on hiring the big names such as Scott Hall, Ken Shamrock, Apollo, Curt Henning, BG James, and Syxx-Pac. They also turned some workers into big names such as Malice, Ron Killings, Monty Brown, Americas Most Wanted, and The Hotshots. This year has been TNAs turning point hiring names like Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Lex Luger. Unfortunately TNA has become a lot more about gimmicks and angles than the wrestling it self. Long one are the days of Killings getting pushed to the sky and AJ, Lynn, Low Ki and The SAT etc having the greatest PPV matches of all time. Bad Angles and stables lurked their ugly heads. S.E.X became the focus of TNA. A good thing about this however it is brining in the fans with Hulk Hogan Vs Jeff Jarrett happening next year. They should have kept Jarrett face in Nashville and made him heel where ever he went like Jerry Lawler was. This way the match would attract the Hogan fans and the loyal Memphis Fanatics to form a magical evening. TNA should also stop pushing Jarrett, as it is ridiculous as he is the promoter. Raven should be the champion as he is probably more over than Sting, Jarrett and AJ Styles put together. However next year big things will be happening with TNA I can guarantee. But may I make a plea to the NWATNA to drop the sports entertainment and concentrate on the thing us purists want the most the wrasslin!

Several United States workers are doing great in Japan. D-Lo Brown and TAKA Michinoku are up top in The All Japan Real World Tag League. Justin Credible and Ekmo are also being pushed well.
I would like to take this time out to talk about Lucha Libre. Shocker and Ultimo Guerrero had one of the best matches the New York fans have ever seen last month. It was out of this world. I am a huge fan of Shocker and Los Guerreros Del Infierno. I'm glad these guys are getting a bit of exposure in the USA. TNA need to book these 3 guys and put them on national PPV for the world to see. Believe me this Shocker is something special so is Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero.

I have to agree with most all of what you said. The Philly area already has a lot of wrestling and it could get over saturated but MLW might add some good competition.RoH has been doing great and I was able to attend their show Friday in Faifield,CT. I think Daniels vs Punk will make for a great feud as both are great talents and definitely showed that in Fairfield.TNA has kind of gone down hill with their show.Jarrett should not be champ and doesn't even need to be to feud with Hogan. That is the given reason why Jarrett won the title, but him and Hogan have a lot of other stuff to feud over now than the title.TNA needs to get back to focusing more on wrestling. They should have Raven,Styles, or Hall as their champ.I'd like to wish the best of luck to MLW,RoH, and NWA TNA as they are all great feds and deserve to suceed.
