WRESTLING COLUMNS

Online World of Wrestling Buzz Report.
October 10, 2002 - by Brad Dykens

  • Word is Steve Austin has no desire to return to WWE at the moment and despite keeping himself in great shape hasn't even spoke to Vince McMahon or Jim Ross in months. The only WWE official Austin has kept contact with is Blackjack Lanza, a road agent that Steve is friends with.

  • Triple H is the reason there will no longer be an IC title after the No Mercy PPV. Originally WWE had planned to make the IC title RAW's top title but Triple H refused to be IC champion because he felt it's beneath him and wanted to have a world championship on the level of Brock Lesnar's World championship.

  • No Mercy's ticket sales are very poor at this point, which is a carry-over from the really weak house show ticket sales and some recent television shows. At Ticketmaster, you are still able to purchase the $200 ringside tickets, which usually sell out quickly for most other Pay Per View live events.

  • WWE.com reports that Lilian Garcia's first single, "Shout", will be released soon and they beg you to call in to your local radio station to give it some airtime.

  • Olympic gold medalist and former WWE & WCW champion Kurt Angle taped commentary and footage for an independent film called 'Reversal', a story between a father and a son with a high school wrestling background as the story. Steve 'Sting' Borden also taped footage for the movie which just like Angle's, are part of the extras on the DVD.

  • Bubba Ray Dudley suffered a concussion during the TLC match Monday and will be off the house show tour until he is cleared by a doctor to return to work. It was the only 'serious' injury coming out of the TLC match. There is a point during the match (if you have it on tape) where you can go back and actually see Bubba crawling around to get in place for a big spot, Bubba was apparently knocked goofy at that time and somehow he was able to continue on with the match

  • Missy Hyatt (former ECW, WCW & ECW Diva) has decided to take Bill Alphonso (former ECW talent) court for damage he did to her Porsche. The case will be heard on the Judge Mathis television show

  • Michael Hayes, who was removed from the RAW brand and put to work on the Smackdown brand based on an incident the wrestling community quickly labeled "The WWE Flight From Hell", has been shifted back to the RAW brand in an effort to create a better all around direction for the brand. From what it looks like Michael Hayes will be the new 'point-man' for RAW. Which would mean Brian Gerwitz would have a reduced role on the brand (actually he now would report to Hayes and only deal with storyline's concepts and not have total control over the brand itself).

  • Bruce Pritchard has been assigned Michael Hayes spot on Smackdown. It is not known if Pritchard will go back on the road or continue his at home duties with WWE (Pritchard has been working out of his home).

  • Curt Hennig debuted on TNA last night and the new mystery masked man that has been attacking Ron Killings is calling himself Mr. Wrestling III..

  • UK Tabloid Daily Star reports that Vince McMahon has begun to negotiate with representatives of Lennox Lewis for a possible match at NO WAY OUT 2003..
