21 Wrestlers Under 50 Dead in 2007

Bam Bam BigelowWRESTLING BABYLON: List of 11 Wrestlers Under Age 50 Who Died in 2007

(See also: “Why Wrestling Dodged the Congressional Bullet”)

I’ll go out on a limb here and predict that no more pro wrestlers under age 50 will die in the last three days of 2007. If so, the number will hold at 11. The appendix of my book Wrestling Babylon listed 89 other performers from 1985 through 2006 who didn’t make it to their 50th birthdays. That study was far from complete, but it occurs to me that our little corner of wrestling necrology has now counted an even 100.

Claudio and HeroCHIKARA: See Castagnoli/Hero season finale match for FREE!

Back in November, we tried to close out our year with the long-awaited face off between Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero, at our event called “Chapter 11.” But as fate would have it, that match did not happen. A few weeks later, we managed to deliver it at “Stephen Colbert > Bill O’Reilly,” at Penn State University. However, a lot of the great fans that deserved to see this match never did, simply because of the circumstances.

Greg “Mr. Gillis” Gillies – 1963-2007

Greg Gillies, better known to fans in British Columbia as Mr. Gillis and Doby Gillis, died on Sunday of a heart attack at his home in B.C. He was 44.

Though just 5-foot-9, the weightlifting fanatic Gillies built one of the best-looking bodies in pro wrestling at his peak.

Born in Cornach, Saskatchewan on June 14, 1963, Gillies broke into pro wrestling in 1985, trained by the likes of Leo Burke, Ron Ritchie, Ron Starr, Bulldog Bob Brown and Stomping Paul Pellering in and around Calgary.

Lost Treasure’s of Pro Wrestling Vol 1

Lost Treasures Vol 1LOST TREASURES OF PRO WRESTLING VOL. 1

By Joseph Santangelo

Hello my name is Joseph Santangelo and I just finished watching the Lost Treasures in Pro Wrestling DVD. When I first decided to purchase this DVD I was expecting some pretty good results. I mean with RF Videos reputation and this being one of the rare 4 disc sets that they ever put out, I figured that it should be a good DVD. I was right. This DVD goes over the lives and deaths of 14 of Pro Wrestling’s true “lost treasures”. On discs 1 and 2 the DVD takes us through past interviews that RF has conducted with people about the wrestlers that have died. This includes some of wrestling’s biggest names such as Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Mick Foley, Taz, and X-Pac to name a few. Disc’s 3 and 4 features several matches from each individual wrestler. Now I am not going to go over each individual match because quite frankly I don’t think this DVD is about watching great matches. Some of the highlights of Disc’s 3 and 4 were the Mike Awesome vs. Taz match, The Haas Brothers against Lo Ki and American Dragon, and Bam Bam Bigelow against Spike Dudley. Now onto the wrestler tribute reviews.
