Dory Funk remembers Killer Kowalski

Funk’s Corner – Killer Kowalski – His “Stomp to the Face” Didn’t Hurt at All

In 1952, wrestling magazines were as important to professional wrestling as television. As a 10 year old kid I living on Dory Funk Sr.’s Flying Mare Ranch in Umbarger, Texas we had no wrestling on television. My main source of information was the wrestling magazines published in New York.

R.I.P. “Killer” Kowalski

The Phantom of the Ring pays tribute to one of the all time greats of the squared circle. Walter “Killer” Kowalski passed away August 30. All our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

Is Wrestling Too Dangerous for it’s Stars?

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, takes a look at the recent streak of injuries that have plagued wrestling. He speculates if the current wrestling product is too intense for it’s own good.

John Cena is on the shelf indefinitely with a neck/spine injury that could have easily crippled him. This isn’t the first time that Cena has been injured in the ring. He joins Randy Orton on the Disabled List of wrestlers that have had an unexpected leave due to a severe injury. In this edition of HeadLocker, I want to look at some of the men and women who have been injured recently and explain why the current state of wrestling is just too dangerous.

Jeff Peterson Cup field expands to 12!!

In November, 2002 independent wrestling phenomenon Jeff Peterson lost his long battle with cancer. May 16-17, 2003 saw the beginning of the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup, a sixteen competitor tournament in honor of the fallen star. Each year the event has grown to international levels. Previous winners of this prestigious tournament are “Reckless Youth” Tom Carter, Justice, Chris Sabin, Milano Collection AT and Chris Hero. If you have never seen it in person or purchased a DVD of the event we highly recommend this year is the year you become a part of the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup.
