Career Highlights

In The Beginning:

  • Many believe that Tonga Uliuli Fifita began his wrestling career as Lenny or Larry Hurst, but Haku denied this in an interview.
  • Tonga Fifita started out doing Sumo Wrestling but was introduced to pro wrestling by Genichiro Tenryu and Takashi Ishikawa .
  • King Tonga was a major fan-favorite wrestling in Montreal, often as the tag team partner of the legendary Dino Bravo.
  • 1984: King Tonga defeated Dino Bravo to capture the International Wrestling title in Montreal.
  • September 17, 1983 – WWC 10th Anniversary Show: King Tonga defeated Dory Funk Jr..

World Wrestling Federation – King Tonga:

  • 1985: King Tonga entered the WWF and often teamed up with Dino Bravo, but mostly worked singles matches.
  • November 22, 1985 – Live Event: King Tonga defeated Moondog Spot.
  • December 29, 1985: King Tonga and Ricky Steamboat defeated Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake (Tag Champs) in a non-title match.
  • May 1986: King Tonga was one of the first (if not the first) to slam Big John Studd during the Body Slam Challenge angle.
  • June 14, 1986: Big John Studd vs King Tonga ended in a double count-out in Madison Square Garden.
  • June 15, 1986: King Tonga defeated Big John Studd w/ Bobby Heenan in a $15,000 bodyslam match in Toronto, Canada.
  • June 22, 1986: King Tonga vs Harley Race ended in a double disqualification.
  • June 28, 1986 – WWF Live Event: King Tonga defeated Les Thornton.
  • July 13, 1986: WWE Intercontinental champion Randy Savage defeated King Tonga by count-out after using a foreign object outside the ring.
  • ~~~King Tonga went on to win a 20-Man Battle Royal later that night, last eliminating Don Muraco and Harley Race.
  • August 28, 1986 – WWF Big Event: King Tonga fought the Magnificent Muraco to a time limit draw.
  • King Tonga formed a short-lived tag team with newcomer Sivi Afi.

World Wrestling Federation – The Islanders:

  • Late 1986: King Tonga teamed with The Tonga Kid as a babyface tag team in the World Wrestling Federation.
  • February 1987: King Tonga and The Tonga Kid both turned heel and renamed to “Haku” and “Tama” – known as the Islanders.
  • The Islanders turned heel and were then managed by the infamous Bobby “The Brain” Heenan – members of the Heenan Family.
  • October 1987: The Islanders began feuding with Tag Team champions Stike Force but couldn’t win the titles after many attempts.
  • December 8, 1987: The Islanders vs. The British Bulldogs ended in a no contest when The Islanders kidnapped Matilda!
  • ~~~WWF President Jack Tunney would later announce that the Islanders were indefinitely suspended until Matilda was found!
  • January 24, 1988 – Royal Rumble: The Islanders defeated The Young Stallions (Paul Roma and Jim Powers) in 2 straight falls.
  • January 25, 1988: The Islanders defeated The British Bulldogs by DQ when the bulldogs used a leash as a weapon.
  • January 27, 1988: The British Bulldogs defeated The Islanders and continued to do so on House Shows for a month.
  • March 7, 1988 – SNME: The Islanders (Haku and Tama) defeated The Killer Bees (Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell) in a tag team match.
  • March 27, 1988 – WrestleMania 4: The Islanders and Bobby Heenan defeatd The British Bulldogs and Koko B. Ware w/ Matilda.
  • April 21, 1988: The Islanders and High Chief Afi w/ Bobby Heenan defeated Outback Jack and Brady Boone, and Steve Blackman.
  • ~~~Bobby Heenan introduced Afi as a new member of the Islanders, but it was his only appearance with the group.
  • April 1988: Tama left the World Wrestling Federationand Haku had a singles run going under the name “King Haku”.

World Wrestling Federation – King Haku:

  • June 21, 1988: There was a coronation ceremony to name Haku the new “King” of the WWF after Harley Race was injured.
  • June 22, 1988: King Haku and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan appeared on the Brother Love Show.
  • August 2, 1988: Hulk Hogan defeated King Haku w/ Bobby Heenan (match seen on Hulkamania IV tape).
  • September 18, 1988: Hulk Hogan defeated King Haku.
  • October 25, 1988 – SNME: Hulk Hogan defeated King Haku.
  • December 26, 1988: King Haku defeated Harley Race and continued to do so on other house shows.

World Wrestling Federation – Colossal Connection:

  • Haku teamed with Andre the Giant as the Colossal Connection, managed by Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.
  • The Colossal Connection defeated Demolition to win the Tag Team titles.
  • April 1, 1990 – WrestleMania 6: Demolition (Ax and Smash) defeated Colossal Connection (Andre The Giant and Haku w/ Bobby Heenan) to win the Tag Team titles.
    Haku accidentally superkicked Andre, which led to Demolition scoring the pin to win the titles!
    After the match, Bobby Heenan slapped Andre accross the face, resulting in Andre turning on him!
    ~~~Haku came to Bobby Heenan’s rescue but he got beat up by the Giant as well!

World Championship Wrestling – (Bodyguard) Meng:

  • Haku left the WWF and joined WCW as Col Robert Parker‘s bodyguard, named “Meng”.
  • Meng broke off from Col Parker and became part of Kevin Sullivan’s Dungeon of Doom.

World Championship Wrestling – The Faces of Fear (Barbarian and Meng):

  • The Barbarian rejoined WCW and was reunited with Meng (Haku) as the Faces of Fear, and as a members of the Dungeon of Doom.
  • March 19, 1995 – Uncensored: Meng defeated Jim Duggan.
  • May 21, 1995 – Slamboree: Meng defeated Brian Pillman in the Main Event TV. later that night Meng vs. Road Warrior Hawk ended in a Double Count Out.
  • June 18, 1995 – Great American Bash: Sting defeated WCW United States Champion Meng to win the title.
  • July 16, 1995 – Bash At The Beach: WCW United States Champion Sting defeated Meng to retain the title.
  • September 25, 1995 – WCW Monday NITRO: Meng defeated Lex Luger.
  • October 16, 1995 – WCW Monday NITRO: Meng defeated Jim Duggan.
  • October 29, 1995 – Halloween Havoc: Lex Luger defeated Meng by DQ.
  • October 30, 1995 – WCW Monday NITRO: Lex Luger and Meng defeated The American Males.
  • November 13, 1995 – WCW Monday NITRO: Randy Savage defeated Meng.
  • November 26, 1995 – World War3: Meng participated in the 3 Ring Battle Royal won by Randy Savage.

  • March 24, 1996 – Uncensored: Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage beat The Alliance to End Hulkamania in a Tower of Doom Cage match.

  • April 22, 1996 – WCW Monday NITRO: Jim Duggan defeated Meng.
  • May 19, 1996 – Slamboree: DDP and The Barbarian beat Meng and Hugh Morrus in the 1st Round of the Lord of the Ring Tournament.

  • June 10, 1996 – WCW Monday NITRO: Sting defeated Meng.
  • July 15, 1996 – WCW Monday NITRO: Meng defeated Arn Anderson.

  • Royal Rumble 2001: Meng shocks the wrestling world by showing up at the 2001 Royal Rumble in the Rumble match.
  • Haku formed a brief tag team with Rikishi, but eventually faded away before getting released again.
  • January 29, 2001 – RAW: The Undertaker defeated Haku.
  • February 1, 2001 – SmackDown: The Undertaker and Kane defeated Rikishi and Haku in a first blood match.
  • February 5, 2001 – RAW: Haku and Rikishi defeated Scotty 2 Hotty and Grandmaster Sexay.
