Details on Mariah May signing with WWE

  • Former AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May made her surprise debut on Tuesday’s episode of NXT.
  • Fightful Select has published details on her signing with WWE.
  • According to the report, May is signed to a multi-year deal and that specifics of her debut were kept secret to avoid an online leak. It was also said from sources there was a small, tight-knit group behind the scenes that actually knew ahead of time May signed a deal with the company, with the plan for her to debut on NXT. It was added that talent in the gorilla position did not find out about her debut until right before the segment was to start.

Fightful Select also notes those they spoke with indicate May could receive a different name. She was not acknowledged by name on air by the commentary team, which was what WWE did with Ricky Starks for his debut. Shortly after it was revealed he would be going by Ricky Saints.

The report further notes AEW did have interest in retaining her, but that there is no word on what that specific offer or offers looked like and that May did not leave on bad terms.

Months after May had been absent from AEW television, heavy speculation began that she was WWE-bound.
