Here is some more information on the first EVOLVE event:

EVOLVE is finalizing all the details, signing the last match contracts and putting the finishing touches on “EVOLVE 1: Richards vs. Ibushi” set for this Saturday, January 16th, in Rahway, NJ.

You know the main event will feature arguably the two most outstanding wrestlers of 2009 as Davey Richards fights Kota Ibushi. You have heard that there will be an extreme surprise and there will be no swerves here. You can see that most of the undercard has been announced. Now some other details have emerged.

We have learned that all matches will be either singles or tag team bouts. There will be no four ways, six ways or any other kind of multi-man contest. The EVOLVE athletes will be tested in one-on-one competition or as part of a regular tag team. All the Official Tag Team Division duos are already signed in matches. The remaining combatants signed for January 16th are all Official Singles Division wrestlers. They are: Brad Allen, Chris Dickinson, Bobby Fish, Johnny Gargano, Kyle O’Reilly and Silas Young. Adam Cole will be there as an alternate.

This means that three more singles matches will be added to this card. EVOLVE officials are rushing to try to sign these match contracts, but it might not happen until the day of the show in New Jersey. Another wrinkle is that Mercedes Martinez has sent word that women belong in EVOLVE, too. Martinez has stated at WSUwrestling.com that she will be at “EVOLVE 1: Richards vs. Ibushi” and she wants some competition.

A huge question mark is what role the Extreme Surprise will play on this event. We don’t know why he is coming to Rahway, what his goals are or what he plans to do. We’ll find out the answers at the show this Saturday.

This isn’t just another indy show. This is not a one and done fly-by-night operation. This is the launch of wrestling’s newest brand. We will build this together from the ground floor. Be there and experience the start of it all.
