Barry W

Barry Clinton Windham (born July 4, 1960) is an American semi-retired professional wrestler and the son of wrestler Blackjack Mulligan. He is best known for his appearances with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). In NWA/WCW, he was a one-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, a one-time United States Heavyweight Champion, a one-time Television Champion,a one-time Western States Heritage Champion, a four-time NWA (Mid Atlantic)/WCW World Tag Team Champion and a one-time NWA United States Tag Team Champion with Ron Garvin. In the WWF, he was a two-time World Tag Team Champion with his brother-in-law, Mike Rotunda. On March 31, 2012, Windham was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the Four Horsemen. Career Highlights

In The Beginning:

  • Barry Windham is the son of the legendary Blackjack Mulligan and the older brother of fellow wrestler Kendell Windham.
  • 1981: Barry Windham began his professional wrestling career wrestling under the name Blackjack Mulligan Jr. in Knoxville.
  • Jay A. wrote:Between 1983-84, while wrestling for Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF), Ron Bass, Dusty Rhodes and Windham developed a hillarious angle. The legend was Rhodes and Bass were childhood friends back in Texas. Dusty’s mother had given Bass a saddle as a child. Bass brought the saddle out on televised matches and basically alluded to Dusty’s mother favoring him over her own son. Windham, who was then the Florida heavyweight champion, reasoned that Bass was unworthy of the gift. A match, which would be televised, was between Bass and Windham. Bass and Windham had already enjoyed a long running feud, where Bass would often refer to Windham as a ‘snot nose punk’. Windham would place his title up and Bass would in return release the saddle to Windham if he was defeated. Windham defeated Bass in what was probably the longest televised match in CWF history (about 40 mins). Bass had different ideas and instead of walking away from the mat, used the One Man Gang to help him place the saddle on Windham’s back and Bass ‘rode’ him around in the ring. In a few minutes other wrestlers, most notably Windham’s father Blackjack Mulligan, came to the rescue and stopped the ‘humiliating’ treatment. It was one of the best and most hillarious moments in televised wrestling history!

  • April 20, 1986 – AWA WrestleRock: Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda defeated The Fabulous Ones (Steve Kiern and Stan Lane).
  • In Florida, Barry Windham lost a loser-leaves-town match but returned to the territory as the masked “Yellow Dog”.

  • December 9, 1986: Ron Garvin and Barry Windham defeated Ivan Koloff and Krusher Khrushchev for the NWA US Tag Team titles.
  • February 15, 1987 – MoscaMania 2: The Midnight Express defeated Hector Guerrero and Barry Windham in Hamilton, Ontario.
  • March 14, 1987: Ivan Koloff and Dick Murdoch defeated Ron Garvin and Barry Windham to capture the NWA US Tag Team titles.
  • July 4, 1987 – Great American Bash: Barry Windham defeated Rick Steiner.
