Current WWE concierge, former WWE manager, former WWE Women’s Champion, & the author of the new book, “Wrestling With The Truth,” Bruno “Harvey Whippleman” Lauer, was the special guest on this past week’s (07/31/08) special bonus edition of Monday Night Mayhem, hosted by The Big Mosh, Blade, & DFL (presented by Sweet Sunshine Sauces: “the official finishing sauce of The Mayhem”) — which can be heard live & in streaming audio every Monday night (at 8PM ET/7PM CT), exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network (www.MondayNightMayhem.com, www.OnlineWorldOfWrestling.com, & www.ITunes.com).

Bruno’s first-ever Mayhem appearance (as part of “The Summer of Mayhem 2008”) is now available for FREE in Windows Streaming Media, or via podcast/the MNM On ITunes.

Here are some of the highlights from Bruno’s interview on the show, provided by The Mayhem’s host, John “The Big Mosh” Masiulionis:

=================================================================================================================

Bruno was welcomed to the show by The Mayhem Crew (Mosh, Blade, & DFL), and after some exchange of the weather in Bruno’s hometown in Mississippi & The Mayhem’s hometown of Buffalo, NY, Bruno was fired up to start his Mayhem appearance, telling MNM he was excited to “be back in God’s country.” As Mosh is getting ready to celebrate his 27th birthday in less than two weeks, Bruno wanted to let the audience know that he is ready to celebrate 30 years in the business in the coming months ahead.

Prior to the interview, both Bruno & The Mayhem were discussing how the WWE is going to be having its annual December PPV, Armageddon, in Buffalo, NY (the official hometown of “Your Home Of Wrestling Radio”) @ The HSBC Arena. Bruno’s memories of the Western New York area are quite vivid, including all of the passionate fans that come to the events from the area. Before discussing Bruno’s new book (which is available exclusively for purchase at www.CrowbarPress.com), “Wrestling With The Truth,” Blade asked Bruno what is the “cutoff” age for “marking out behind the arena.” Bruno jokingly replied “75.” Bruno continued on by saying that “the people who stand behind the arenas are the ones paying our bills…God bless each & every person that stands out there.” Despite some fans that tend to get rowdy/out of control, Bruno said that the majority of the fans tend to stay in check. “For the most part, it’s wonderful.”

Mosh start things off on a serious note by asking Bruno if there was a specific point in time as to when he decided to pen his book, and to get his life story out to the audience of professional wrestling & sports-entertainment. Bruno said he cannot put an exact date as to when the idea came about, but an unnamed high-ranking member of the WWE approached him about doing the project initially through World Wrestling Entertainment. The finished product of “Wrestling With The Truth” was published through Crowbar Press, and not through the WWE, at no one’s fault in particular at all. He was given the WWE’s blessing to have the project become a reality. He welcomed the challenge of writing a book about his life story & in industry that he has forgotten more about then some people know/claim to know. Bruno also wanted to let those who purchase the book to know that there were some “not so glamorous” moments/”awful stuff” in his career, despite the more higher-profiled ones that fans tend to recall.

Bruno has very fond memories of working the “territory days,” including his time down in Memphis with Jerry Jarrett (as Bruno described Jerry as being “like a father to him”), where he “made a hell of a living.” He credits the man he describes as “his mentor & idol,” Jerry “The King” Lawler for getting him to this point in time in his career. “If it was not for ‘The King,’ there would not be no ‘Downtown’ Bruno…He really set a lot of people on their way. God bless him.”

Part of Bruno wishes he could be a full-time active manager in the WWE, just as he used to in the early ’90’s. However, he described himself today as being “old, show, hurting, & beat-down.” He gave his all while being a manager at that point in time in his career, and went on record with The Mayhem saying that would be virtually impossible for him to do right now in 2008.

With “The Biggest Blockbuster Of The Summer,” on the horizon in less than two weeks, Mosh asked Bruno for his best moments & memories of WWE’s SummerSlam Pay-Per-View: two of which included managing “The Ugandan Giant,” Kamala against The Undertaker & the infamous “Rest In Peace” Match with The Giant Gonzalez against the very same “Phenom.” Bruno loved the build-up leading into SummerSlam ’92 & the event at the legendary Wembley Stadium in London, England. “How can you put a pricetag on that?…Just like the credit card commercial, it was priceless.” Never in his wildest dreams did he ever see himself that high up on the card at that prestigious of an event. At the following year at The Place of Auburn Hills in Detroit, MI, he recalls that SummerSlam mainly because The Giant Gonzalez picked him up for a chokeslam…and knocked him right out…for the first time in his life & his career. “That memory stands out.”

As Bruno has been a part of many SummerSlam events with “The Dead Man,” he is very much looking forward to the Hell In A Cell match between The Undertaker & “The Rated-R Superstar,” Edge, along with Matt Hardy challenging “The World’s Strongest Champion,” Mark Henry for the ECW Championship. Bruno believes wholeheartedly that Matt is “incapable of having a bad match.”

On the heels of wrestling fans converging around the world to “Hoosier Country” on August 17th for SummerSlam, Harvey describes in his book in great detail his time working with former WWE/WCW Champion, Sid Vicious, and Sid’s “memorable” match with WWE Hall Of Famer, Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VIII at The RCA Dome in Indianapolis, IN. The Mayhem Crew asked Bruno flat-out if he thinks that Sid could make it back to the WWE at this point in time in life/career. “I don’t see why not…as Vince McMahon is fond of saying…Stay tuned…You never know.” Bruno says that he still keeps in touch with Sid on a semi-regular basis, and has extended the invitation to him numerous times for him to take part in summer barbecues at his home.

Bruno, as Harvey Whippleman, was known for his time managing such WWE superstars as Adam Bomb, Kwang, Well Dunn, & former WWE Women’s Champion, Rhonda “Bertha Faye” Singh. Does Bruno feel one of those talent’s runs could have lasted longer than the rest/had a longer shelf life that what landed up happening in front of the camera? A question that pundits/critics have scratched their collective heads on for years. The only way to hear Bruno’s very candid answer to this tough question is by checking out this special “Summer Of Mayhem 2008″ interview” with the man himself…Bruno Lauer.

Since holding the WWE Women’s Championship, Bruno went on record saying that the Women’s/Diva’s division in World Wrestling Entertainment “has grown by leaps & bounds.” He strongly believes that the girls that are with the company are not just there because of their looks, but are there because of their talent & ability as well. Bruno’s prime examples of this are: WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James, WWE Divas’ Champion, Michelle McCool, Victoria, “young Miss Neidhart,” & “The Glamazon” — just to name a few. No disrespect meant his way, but he also feels that the girls are more talented in the ring than he ever was as WWE Women’s Champion close to ten years ago….”I’ll be the first to admit that.”

Within the past few weeks, there has been much that has been discussed/talked about coming from The Ultimate Warrior’s appearance at The Marriott Hotel in Long Island, NY the same day as the WWE’s Great American Bash PPV. Reports have surfaced that the WWE felt in some fashion that The Warrior was trying to capitalize off of the success that day for the Bash, and that sometime that afternoon, Bruno arrived at the hotel and hung up a cease & desist letter from World Wrestling Entertainment, so even the fans there in attendance could read it. Bruno wished to go on record in his remaining moments with The Mayhem, saying “that was bull sh*t.” Bruno continued on by saying “I did not post any kind of letter.” He happened to read the report on one of the “bull sh*t websites,” and whoever posted the story “was full of bull sh*t…I had nothing to do with it…I don’t even know if there was a letter. There might have been, and I won’t say there wasn’t, but I certainly did not do it.” Bruno said that he was staying at that same hotel, and was in the lobby several times that day, and that some people might have “put 2&2 together to get 17,” thinking he was the one who did it automatically. “Some of these real credible websites that put up this crap do not know their *ss from their elbows…I certainly did not have anything to do with that.”

In closing, Bruno is looking very much to the 25th anniversary of “The Showcase Of The Immortals,” WrestleMania XXV in Houston, TX. “It’s going to be electric….Every year, it gets better & better….This coming year’s WrestleMania is going to knock your socks off…I wish it was tomorrow.”

In this one-hour+ “Summer Of Mayhem 2008” bonus interview, Bruno gives his uncensored thoughts & takes on why there are no pictures of Jerry Lawler in his new book, why he feels the right decision was made to have William Shatner induct “The King” into the WWE Hall Of Fame, whether he believes the “Mike Adamle Era” on RAW will be a successful one, who he would have induct himself if given the honor of going into the WWE Hall Of Fame, what the “Dr.” stood for in Harvey Whippleman’s name & what he was “a doctorate” in, who he would have liked to have the chance to manage (past or present) in his time in the business (and Bruno’s answer may surprise you) & why he feels this talent could have made him $1 million dollars, which WWE superstar’s book he classifies as “second-to-none/the pedestal of the wrestling industry,” why he feels Lex Luger “didn’t do a great job” in his time with the WWE, who are some of the biggest celebrities he has had the chance to “break bread” with during his time in World Wrestling Entertainment, & how he feels the wrestling business has changed over the years in his eyes…and if it was altered drastically by 9/11. Have you ever wanted to know a “typical day in the life of Bruno Lauer?” Now’s your chance to find out firsthand, courtesy of Monday Night Mayhem!
