  3. MCW Shamrock Cup VII Results from 7/7

Once a year, the superstars of Maryland Championship Wrestling pay tribute to their friend, the late Brian Howser, aka Shane Shamrock. This year, the 7th Annual Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup took place on Sunday, July 8th in Dundalk, MD. And, for the first time, the qualifying matches, and the participants in those matches, were determined via the lethal lottery. Results of the qualifying matches include: “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels def. “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal, Josh Daniels def. MCW Cruiserweight Champion Derek Frazier (non-title), Delirious def. Christian York, Human Tornado def. Azrieal, and Sonjay Dutt def. “Die Hard” Eddie Edwards.

In the 6-man elimination finale, Josh Daniels defeated Christopher Daniels, Delirious, Human Tornado, Sonjay Dutt, and 2006 Shamrock Cup Winner Ruckus to win Shamrock Cup VII. Josh was then presented with the Shamrock Cup trophy and the original (and retired) MCW Light Heavyweight Championship by the Howser family. (Note: MCW retired the Light Heavyweight title after the death of Shane Shamrock). Daniels received praise from the entire MCW locker room, and from special guest, former WWE & WCW World Heavyweight Champion CHRIS JERICHO.

In addition to the tournament, fans were treated to an incredible MCW Heavyweight Championship Match. The match was originally scheduled to be Champion Adam Flash vs. Joey Matthews. However, Creative Control (The Bruiser, Jimmy Cicero, & Tom Brandi) would attacked Matthews in an attempt to knock him out of the title match. Matthews was taken to the dressing room for medical attention, forcing MCW Owner Dan McDevitt to find a replacement. McDevitt chose Danny Doring to take Matthews’ place. Doring had originally defeated Flash at May’s Xtreme Measures event, only to have the result overturned by Creative Control’s Kimberley McDevitt & Zachary Shane. With special guest referee Jeff Jones (appointed by Dan McDevitt), Doring came close to winning the title once again, only to be attacked by Creative Control. Doring was saved by his tag team partner Danny Jaxx, or so he thought, as Jaxx attacked Doring, knocking him out with the title belt. With Doring out, Flash believed that he had retained the title. This is, until Joey Matthews returned to take the title shot that was his in the beginning. In the end, Matthews overcame the interference of Creative Control to win his first MCW Heavyweight Championship, and thus, ended the year-long reign of Adam Flash.

The seven-month long feud between The Bruiser & “The Real Deal” Patrick Brink finally came to a head, as they met for the first time in a one-on-one match. This No-Holds-Barred match saw Brink drop Bruiser through 2 steel chairs, enroute to victory.

Creative Control’s bad night continued as their personal ring announcer, Joel Oresky, who tried to take over the ring announcing duties from MCW ring announcer Larry Kennedy Phillips, was knocked out by Phillips after tensions reached a boiling point in the ring.

All was not bad for Creative Control, as Tom Brandi & Jimmy Cicero won the tag team battle royale, eliminating The Ghetto Mafia to become the #1 contenders for BLK OUT’s MCW Tag Team Championship. BLK OUT vs. Creative Control will take place at MCW’s next event on September 9th.
