Funk’s Corner –  Shane Chung Now On Tour for All Japan Pro Wrestling

Shane Chung was born and raised in Ocala, Florida by his Mother, Bernadette (Chinese Decent) of Kingston, Jamaica and Father, Joel of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Shane Chung attended Dunnellon, Florida High School where he lettered in amateur wrestling, football and baseball. Shane was the Captain of the wrestling team his senior season and was Co-captain of the wrestling team his Junior season.

Shane wrestled mainly in the 152 weight class where He went to regionals 3 times and qualified  for the state tournament once.

During Shane’s Senior season He was at the Annual Kiwanis Tournament where He met Jerry Brisco after competing against his son who was wrestling for another school.

Shane talked to Mr. Brisco about training for professional wrestling and Brisco recommended Dory Funk Jr.’s Funking Conservatory. Shane had already planned to attend the school after graduation but after the conversation decided not to wait and joined the program while still enrolled at Dunnellon High School in January of 2001.

Shane formally started training under the legendary Dory Funk Jr. After wrestling and training at the Funking Conservatory for a couple of years, Shane decided that He needed to better himself as an individual and decided to enlist in the Navy. Dory Funk Sr. had served in the Navy and had seemed to benefit greatly like many others.

The recruiters had guaranteed Shane that He would receive quality training and education and He would still be able to wrestle amateur and professionally. That was enough for Shane. After Navy boot camp, Shane departed for Camp Jejune, North Carolina where He would serve with the United States Marine Corps for the remainder of his Naval Career.

Shane Chung placed in freestyle wrestling tournaments in Great Lakes, Illinois, Wilmington, NC and Brandon, Florida while in the Service.

With the danger in Iraq growing daily it was only a matter of time before Shane deployed leaving Him little time to wrestle. Shane served two tours overseas, Kuwait in 2004 from March through October and after returning home for three months, Shane Chung deployed to Iraq for the next 7 months.

During this deployment, Shane was awarded 7 different awards, two of them being the Presidential Unit Citation and the Iraqi Campaign Medal with an Eagle Glove and Anchor Insignia recognizing that He had served in a Combat Unit.

Shane Chung also became part of the “Fleet Marine Force,” and was awarded a special designator to acknowledge this achievement. After Camp Jejune, Shane transferred to Parris Island, South Carolina where He spent his remaining time until departure from the United States Navy.

Never one to give up on His destiny, Shane returned home to Ocala, Florida where He has returned to wrestle with and for Dory Funk Jr.. Shane Chung is no longer the 152 pound kid. Shane stands 5′ 11″ tall and weighs 215 pounds.

Shane likes to blend his Freestyle, Folkstyle and Technical Wrestling styles to form a solid “Hard Nosed Wrestling Style.”
