Alex Marvez: Remembering Jack Brisco
By ALEX MARVEZ, Scripps Howard News Service
Few pro wrestlers were as successful as Jack Brisco.
Even fewer have announced their retirement and actually followed through with it.
Brisco — the industry’s top world champion of the 1970s — died Monday from complications following open-heart surgery. He was 68.
Although he left the business in 1984, Brisco remains such a revered figure that he was honored with a posthumous graphic by World Wrestling Entertainment on this week’s “Monday Night Raw” telecast. Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets

There are actually people upset over Vince McMahon “making the announcement to end ECW” this past Tuesday night. If you’re a fan of the WWE TV show that airs on Tuesday night, sorry you’re upset. it’s not just fans, but has even been suggested that McMahon’s decision is the reason that Tommy Dreamer left WWE. But for all of you who don’t realize it, ECW died in 2001 when Paul Heyman ran out of money. For for anyone who was there in person for the real ECW or has seen tapes and DVDs, the WWE TV show that aired on Tuesday nights never was ECW…or even anything remotely close. It’s sort of ironic that the original ECW first aired on Tuesday nights, on SportsChannel Philadelphia at 6:00 pm. I wish a lot more people could have seen the real thing, rather than edited versions on WWE Classics.

NWS Results From Edison, NJ 2/6 – NWS Doesn’t Let A Little Snow Keep Them Away & Neither Did The Fans: WWE Star “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan & Former ECW Zombie Team Up Against Danny Demanto & Kevin Matthews, Four Way Ladders-Tables-And-Chairs Match, J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament Qualifier Match, NWS Cruiserweight Title Match & More
Despite the snowstorm cancelling shows left and right, the Northeast’s busiest wrestling promotion National Wrestling Superstars wasn’t about to let the fans down, and the show went on Saturday night February 6th at Edison, NJ’s St. Matthews School Gym. And even though after opening the year with three sellout shows, it took Mother Nature to break that streak, Nonetheless 200 souls braved the elements to watch and cheer on the action.
