Here are some of the highlights from Jim’s interview on the show, provided by The Mayhem’s co-host, John “The Big Mosh” Masiulionis

======================================================================================================
Mosh, Blade, Chaz, & DFL welcomed Jim to the program/Ilio DiPaolo’s, as he was in the midst of working on one of his summer football camps through the Jim Kelly Football Camp (celebrating over 20+ years/official website: www.JimKellyFootballCamp.com), which he conducts every summer @ Ralph Wilson Stadium. Jim was indeed ready for action, as he gave a right-cross to WWE superstar, Triple H…or the Fathead equivalent of himself on the wall of the restaurant. Out of respect to “The Game,” Jim said he would “probably not do that in person.”

Jim wished to bring those not familiar with the lineage of Ilio Dipaolo’s Restaurant, but that of the DiPaolo family in the Western New York area as well, and how there has plenty of those around the world touched by the generosity & good graces of DiPaolo’s. Jim vividly remembers that after almost every single Bills home game during the “glory years” of the franchise how he & his teammates would head over to the restaurant. The players & coaches would come to the restaurant, “get their bellies filled,” & then make their way over to his house in Orchard Park, NY…just about 10 minutes away. He classified coming to DiPaolo’s as a “tradition” & a rite of passage, whether being a football fan, a wrestling fan, or a fan of neither. Jim cannot wait until those “glory days” come back soon.

The Mayhem Crew set the record straight for the worldwide listening audience that NFL Hall Of Fame RB, Tony Dorsett, was in attendance at the recent WWE Night Of Champions Pay-Per-View, while Indianapolis Colt star WR & perrenial Pro Bowler, Marvin Harrison, checked out a recent television taping of TNA iMPACT @ Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. So in a great fashion, Jim was more or less, keeping up with the recent trend.

Jim wished to on record on this year’s upcoming Buffalo Bills squad. He believes that some key injuries cost the Bills this past season, and that in some fashions, they were one play away from taking that next step. Keeping the team healthy is vital & integral for a successful ’08 campaign. Jim feels that now that Buffalo has their hearts & minds set on the quarterback position (in Trent Edwards), that will help them tremendously, and that if some of the position players that were acquired in free agency pan out, then “Who knows?”

Kelly cannot compare himself to Trent Edwards, mainly because they are both built differently. He did see, however, the way Edwards handled the offense last season, the way he was able to make some tremendous throws in difficult & pressure-filled game/weather situations, and was impressed with the way he handled himself as a quarterback in the National Football League. Jim believes that Trent is “a great guy,” and without a doubt, he is pulling for him this year. He added that Edwards will continue to make strides with the organization. Jim does hope the offensive line can stay together, that the Bills current running back, Marshawn Lynch stays healthy — and if that happens, the team will definitely be a playoff contender.

Jim has plenty of great memories with working with World Championship Wrestling, during their association & affiliation with the Ilio DiPaolo’s Scholarship Foundation in the mid-late ’90’s. He became fast friends with both Diamond Dallas Page (whom he jokingly said he “walked away from after he started the yoga”) & “Nasty Boy” Brian Knobbs, and had the opportunities to meet some of his personal favorites as well: including “The Macho Man” Randy Savage & several others. Kelly believes that professional wrestlers are definitely entertainers in their own right, and was very proud to be a part of the business when it had strong ties & affiliations to the Western New York area. He is looking forward to World Wrestling Entertainment coming to town in December for their Armageddon PPV, and thanks to The Mayhem Crew, has also heard good things about TNA Wrestling. The question now is will #12 step inside a WWE ring or a TNA six-sided ring first?

Blade mentioned the successful wrestling career that Jim’s former Bills teammate, “The Alpha Male” Monty Brown/Marcus Cor Von had both in the WWE & TNA. The question was posed to Jim who he felt would have made the best transition to the squared circle. Jim said that the football world is still mourning the passing of one of Mitch Frerotte, a former offensive lineman for the Bills during some of Kelly’s most-productive years. Mitch was very much into wrestling, with his make-up & long flowing blond hair, and was nicknamed “The Pitbull.”

Jim’s current pride & joy is his charity work, and the passion & driving force in his life right now. Hunter’s Hope was established in 1997 by Jim & his wife, Jill, after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, an inherited, fatal, nervous system disease. The Foundation is the Kelly’s life long commitment to increase public awareness of leukodystrophies as well as to increase the likelihood of early detection & treatment. Their ultimate goal is to raise money to fund research efforts to identify new treatments, therapies, & a cure for Krabbe & other leukodystrophies. Log onto www.HuntersHope.org for more information on how you can donate to this special cause. Help Jim & thousands around the world make a difference in the lives of those children who are afflicted with this disease.

Jim wished to thank The Mayhem Crew, as well as The Mayhem’s proud presenter, Sweet Sunshine Sauces, for their hard work & dedication to the professional wrestling, radio & food service industries respectively. Kelly also encourages all of his fans around the world to check out his official website @ www.JimKelly.com.
