WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

8/31 Raw TV results from Detroit, MI: Beth Phoenix won a Divas battle royal for a title shot; Chris Jericho over MVP; Hornswoggle dressed like a cowboy over Chavo Guerrero wearing a cow suit; Mark Henry over Big Show via DQ; Kofi Kingston over Jack Swagger, The Miz & Carlito in a fatal four-way to retain the U.S. title; Mickie James over Beth Phoenix to retain the Divas title; and Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes for the WWE title didn’t happen when Legacy turned on John Cena who was the special ref.

Pre-TV dark was Primo over Alex Riley. Post-TV dark was DX, John Cena & Dusty Rhodes over Randy Orton & The Legacy. Finish was Dusty hitting bionic elbows on the heels like it was 1985 and Cena tapping out Orton with an STFU.

The Smackdown/ECW taping is tonight in Cleveland. We’re looking for reader reports ahead of Friday’s airing to [email protected].

The update on the Rey Mysterio situation is this. As things stand his 30-day suspension will commence as announced on Wednesday. There is a lot of talk in the company right now, mostly speculation and gossip about what is going to happen. Rey is deeply unhappy about the way Dr.
Black and the company has handled his drug test fail, and WWE is deeply unhappy with Rey for going public in the unauthorised interview in Mexico. Rey wants the suspension overturned while there are also forces at work pushing for an increased punishment over the interview to send a message to the rest of the locker room. He is 100 perecent dropping the IC title tonight, but who to remains a topic of debate, as Vince decided yesterday he wanted Ziggler to chase someone for the belt.

ECW tonight on Sy Fy has the main event The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels from Wrestlemania 25. No idea why. As of early this afternoon the only other thing they had planned for the show was Goldust vs.
Sheamus. Tony Atlas is also being brought back as Abraham Washington’s flunky.

DX vs. The Legacy in a Submissions Count Anywhere match was added to the Breaking Point PPV on September 13. Other matches already announced are CM Punk vs. The Undertaker in a Submission match for the World title; Chris Jericho & Big show vs. MVP & Mark Henry for the tag titles; and Randy Orton vs. John cena in an I quit match for the WWE title.

Raw is Dusty drew a 3.6 rating averaging 5.1 million viewers.

If you watched Raw last night and didn’t understand the DX humor, this is the original Shockmaster debacle, as explained by Dusty Rhodes:
http://tinyurl.com/c5pmr9 – I cracked at 1.09.

Former Price is Right host Bob Barker, 85, was announced as Raw guest host for next Monday. I assume he is promoting his autobiography. There was talk of bringing back the Raw Roulette gimmick for when he hosts the show but they would have announced it by now.

Several former WWE talents were backstage at Summerslam. Lita, Val Venis and A-Train were all spotted hanging out as well as MMA fighters Tito Ortiz (with girlfriend Jenna Jameson), Josh Barnett and Daniel Puder.

Former WWE wrestler Carl Ouellet had a recent tryout before a Smackdown TV taping. He told James Guttman of www.clubwwi.com a strange story about his tryout: “After the show, I asked Mike Rotunda (WWE agent of IRS gimmick fame), I said, ‘Should I wait for their phone call or should I wait and thank Vince for the opportunity?’ Mike said, ‘No Carl. You should wait for Vince and thank him, so it’ll be fresh in his memory, you know.’ So I’m just waiting at the end of the Smackdown show. He’s coming out and it’s maybe 12:30 or 1 a.m. And I go, `Vince, I just want to…,’ and he shoved me into the wall like I was a piece of crap. I felt pretty bad. Right after that, I got to my hotel room and called John Laurinaitis.”

Michelle McCool did a Q&A for her official website. I assume this was an authorised interview. Nothing much to it. She noted that she has been taking acting classes to help improve her promos. She put over Torrie Wilson saying she doesn’t think there will ever be another Diva as popular as her: “She is the most incredible, genuine person who deserves nothing but the best.” When asked about using the Styles Clash as her finisher, she said: “Yeah, that seems to be the hot topic with some Twitter fans! 99 percent of the time I move on. Sometimes, and normally only when people are out of line with their message, I answer to entertain myself. Regardless, the answer is always the same. From headlocks to rollups, it’s all been done before – yadayadayada. Plus, it works! Why would I not want to do it?”

Paul Heyman on his new website has some exclusive pics of Stacy Keibler at http://tinyurl.com/kqcla2 and Floyd Mayweather from his recent Raw appearance at http://tinyurl.com/kkkwjc.

WWE is attempting to trademark the Celtic Warrior name for Sheamus. The name was actually made famous in the 1990s by Irish boxer Steve Collins.

Another DVD in the works is a Jeff Hardy 3-disc set. It should be ready
to ship before the end of the year.

Dolph Ziggler, Maria and Eve Torres ended up being the one’s to tape
episodes of Deal Or No Deal for an upcoming WWE-themed week.

In a recent interview with Alex Marvez, UFC mouthpiece Mike Goldberg
said turning down a WWE announce position four years ago was the hardest
decision of his life. He said: “The offer was extremely overwhelming. I
had a great affinity for WWE. I’m sure we could have had a lot of fun.
WWE is very glamorous. But I’d been in the UFC boat for so long that I
really wanted to see where we were going to embark. It also has to do
with the friendships and relationships I have there. Turning down the
job was one of the most difficult things I had to do. But, in
retrospect, it was the greatest decision I’ve ever made.”

The Legends of Classic Wrestling Cruise hosted by Jerry Lawler has been
postponed. The cruise was originally scheduled for October but with
Jerry running for mayor he decided to postpone the trip. The itinerary
was an awesome read, including: On deck tanning sessions with The King;
shopping expeditions with his girlfriend; “the truth” about Andy
Kauffman; and special guests Grandmaster Sexay and Hall of Famer Pat
Patterson.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal website had a poll up asking it’s readers
who impressed them most in a mayoral debate last Thursday. Jerry Lawler
topped the poll with over 40 percent of the votes. You can follow his
bid for mayor at www.jerrylawler2009.com.

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS

Traci Brooks was bumped from the November cover of Playboy. The story is
that Playboy approached TNA when WWE decided to stop doing it. Traci
took the pics shortly there after with a request from Playboy that TNA
push her hard on Impact before the issue came out. So a few months past
and Traci wasn’t used on TV at all until word leaked out that she did
the pictorial. By this point Playboy had lost interest and now her pics
will be posted online instead for Playboy’s Cyber Club members on
September 17.

Former WWE wrestlers Kevin Thorn and Kizarny are backstage today at the
TNA TV tapings in Orlando.

AJ Styles and the Beautiful People appear on MTV’s Made on Sunday
afternoon training a school girl who dreams of becoming a pro wrestler.
The show was shot in Seattle earlier this year with interesting results.

TNA president Dixie Carter was interviewed on Live Audio Wrestling at
www.thefightnetwork.com. She claimed she would like to cut back on the
number of TNA PPVs, saying: “I am not a fan of monthly pay-per-views,
quite honestly. But you have contracts that keep you held in and bound
at times. We are definitely talking about how we can shake things up and
how we can do things differently in the future.”

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Linda Claridge, ex wife of Hulk Hogan, filed for a motion against Hulk
this past week in Pinellas County Superior Court for the “enforcement of
the confidential marital settlement.” She claims she has not been given
a Harley Davidson motorcycle and $225,000 payment that was due as part
of their settlement. She wants him jailed if he doesn’t comply. Linda’s
attorney, Ray Rafool, told Fox News: “We are proceeding against the Hulk
with enforcement and contempt proceedings to make him comply with the
marital settlement, whether he likes the agreement or not, and
regardless of his stalls, emotional issues and games.” A rep for Hulk
said in response: “Linda will receive everything she is entitled to
under the agreement as soon as it is available to give to her.”

local TV syndication.

The family of Brian Teigland has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against
a Memphis hospital over his medical care. Teigland was a popular local
TV weatherman and former Memphis Wrestling announcer who passed away
last year at the age of 53. The suit says the hospital and its doctors
failed to properly diagnose and treat him for a perforating splenic
artery aneurysm.
