Interview highlights courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson from New Jersey:

His on-screen chemistry in the film with WWE’s John Cena: “I think the chemistry is something you can’t really fake. To an extent you try to fake it, but it has to be something uniquely there, and I think a lot of it is you like the person and respect the person you’re working opposite with, and that creates its own chemistry in a way. I think we really enjoyed each other and respected each other. The characters are from such different worlds already, and I think he & I are from very different worlds in real life, so I think that created its own natural ease in playing the roles, and playing off the awkwardness in the beginning, and building this brotherly bond & love that we have by the end of the movie. I respected him and looked up to him as a person, and he’s just a very nice, good person and just a good person to be around, so there was never a moment where I felt like I didn’t naturally have that desire to look up to him.”

Cena’s work ethic during the filming of the movie, his interaction with the crew, & how the “superstar” did not develop a “diva” mentality: “He has the most incredible work ethic of really most people I have ever worked with. He is just so committed and wants to be there, and he’s so great with the crew and there for them every single day, which is so separate from so many actors who develop a “diva” mentality. He’s there for his fans and there for the people that work so hard for him. He’s just incredibly polite, and I really respect & hope to be like that when I get older in my career.”

What he hopes people will learn from his character of Cal Chetley & take away from Legendary as a whole: “I hope that they just take away the importance of family, which is a huge part of the film. Even more so than the wrestling, I think, is the story of family. I hope that they would take that away and the aspect of how important that is. No matter what your family situation is like, you could still find a way to make a family work to some degree, and my character of Cal (Chetley) is just a great example of someone who strives so hard to make family work and bring back together this very severed group of individuals. When I think about the average person viewing it, I hope that’s something they’ll think about, and look at, and respect, and also it’s just a fun movie with some great wrestling sequences & great performances from John, Danny Glover & Patricia Clarkson. I hope people enjoy it.”

More is included in this exclusive interview with one of the stars of WWE Studios’ latest film, including an in-depth look at how Devon was approached to be a part of the movie, his intense training & preparation, along with his experiences of working with both Danny Glover & Patricia Clarkson.
