On Wednesday night, July 11, “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal joined hosts Brian Fritz, Dickerman, and Vito DeNucci live on Between The Ropes on Central Florida’s Sports Radio 740 The Team to discuss his Black Machismo character, working with Kevin Nash, and much more.

The interview began with a discussion of the Black Machismo character.  Jay said that the character originated from him doing a Macho Man impersonation in the locker room as a joke.   From there Jay said he did it for Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash “and they loved it.  Nash said ‘you need to do that on TV.’   But, I was like, ‘I don’t know, I don’t want Savage to kick my ass.'”  Jay then credited Nash with finally convincing him to do it on TV and said he “hasn’t been able to stop doing it since.”

Jay was then asked if he had talked to the Macho Man about the gimmick.  He said “I did.   Luckily I was able to have about a 5 minute conversation with him and he loves it.  He thinks it’s the greatest form of flattery.

Jay mentioned that he just received a pair of old school Macho Man trunks with three stars on them that he will likely use in his Black Machismo gimmick.

The discussion then turned to his situation in TNA and his familiarity with the other wrestlers on the roster.   Jay said it was quite a relief to know so many guys from his time in Ring of Honor.  “I can walk in and know everybody, know what they think, know what they like, we can joke around, we get along together.   It makes it easier on everybody.”

When asked about working with Kevin Nash Jay remarked that Nash is “without a doubt the funniest guy I know.”   Jay also said that Nash had been very helpful backstage and that a little group had formed around Nash including himself, Sonjay Dutt, and Chris Sabin.

The interview ended with lighthearted suggestions that the Black Machismo character could possibly be joined by a Miss Elizabeth style valet and receive an endorsement deal from Slim Jims.
