The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
Nobody Asked Me about MIRAW, But…
The Kingfish Arnie Katz continues a “Katz Files” tradition with answers to some ticklish questions inspired by his viewing of the 12/14 episode of RAW.

I was watching RAW/I> this week and Nobody Asked Me, But…

… Wasn’t this a better show, in its way, than the last few three-hour RAW spectaculars? Pre-recording the show and fast-forwarding past the ads, re-sets, lame segments with the nude fate guy, DX and the Diva cluster schmazz definitively helped make that RAW 90 minutes of good pro wrestling TV.

… Who cane up with the off-kilter concept of picking the
”Wrestler of the Year” with a four-man tournament? The Punk-Cena semi-final and the Orton-Cena finale were decent, short matches, but it just taints the bogus honor that little extra bit.

.. Did you rub your eyes in disbelief when they did the second non-match of the night? Admittedly, the JeriShow-DX rematch wasn’t high on my list of compelling future contests, but ending it at the opening bell so soon after Undertaker-Orton shocked me.

… Didn’t Michael Cole, Matt Stryker and Jerry Lawler make an effective and enjoyable announce team? Maybe this trio should become the standard mic squad for the pay per views.

… Bourne and Kingston lost their impromptu tag team clash with Legacy, but didn’t they look like an interesting tandem for the future? Neither is especially large, which might make them more effective as a team than as solo wrestlers.

… Wasn’t it sad when so many in the Slammy audience clearly didn’t catch most of Dennis Miller’s allusions? Guess they’re all more familiar with the repeated references to the 1970’s that wrestlers and announcers serve up with such enthusiasm.

… … Was giving CM Punk the “Shocker of the Year” Slammy for retiring Jeff Hardy really the first step toward bringing him back? The charismatic Enigma has no definite plans to lace up the boots, but this creates a ready-made plotline that they can activate the minute Jeff shows renewed interest in wrestling.

That’s all for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with a fresh installment of the Internet’s fastest-rising wrestling column. I hope you’ll join me then – and, please, bring your friends.
