WWE SmackDown 08 07 2009

August 7, 2009 – Uniondale, New York
Announcers: Jim Ross & Todd Grisham

DARK MATCH: Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Alex Riley w/Beverly Mullins..

C.M. Punk + Jeff Hardy + “General Manager” Theodore Long + Vince McMahon: C.M. Punk came out and cut a promo on Jeff Hardy to take their feud up a notch. Jeff Hardy hit the ring and attacked C.M. Punk before the bell (this was their scheduled title match). Theodore Long came out to restore order, but he was immediately interrupted by Vince McMahon. McMahon offered to get control of the show since Long couldn’t do it. McMahon said there would be a guest enforcer for the title match tonight but everybody had to wait to find out who it was.

John Morrison defeated Tyson Kidd (w/Natalya Neidhart & David Hart Smith): This was a rematch from this past week’s WWE Superstars on WGN America.

WORD UP: Cryme Tyme & Eve Torres talked about the word of the day – Pretenda. Slam Master J came in to congratulate “his boys” and predicted they would bring home some bling at SummerSlam. Slam Master J said he was going to the ring and he would be representin’..

Slam Master J defeated Charlie Haas: That has to be an all-time low, even for Charlie Haas. He could have been wrestling for World titles in TNA a few years ago, but he decided to go back to WWE instead.

Dolph Ziggler defeated Fit Finlay (pinned) and R-Truth and Mike Knox: WWE Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio joined Jim Ross & Todd Grisham on commentary for the match. After the match, Ziggler slapped Mysterio to get his attention. Finlay tapped Ziggler on the shoulder to distract him. Mysterio jumped off the announce table with a Seated-press on Ziggler to the floor.

Maria Kanellis & Melina Perez: Maria and Melina giggled like Divas because Maria was so happy these days. Melina tried to tell Maria that Dolph wasn’t good for her, but Maria said he was a different guy out of the ring than he is in the ring. Melina said she was happy for Maria. I just can’t buy Melina as a girly-girl.

JTG w/Shad Gaspard defeated Chris Jericho w/The Big Show: Chris Jericho hit JTG with the Code-breaker, but he landed under the ropes so a pinfall could not be made. Jericho pulled JTG into the middle of the ring, but JTG small packaged Jericho for the 1-2-3 to win in an upset! Jericho threw a fit at the referee after the match..

The Great Khali w/Ranjin Singh defeated Ricky Ortiz: This would end up being Ricky Ortiz’s final match in the WWE, as he would be unexpectedly release from his contact a few days later. After the match, Kane’s pyro hit and Kane attacked Khali from behind. Kane knocked Khali out of the ring and chased Ranjin Singh. Singh tried to escape, but Kane got him by the throat and kicked him! Kane grabbed Singh by the hand and literally dragged him through the crowd out of the arena.

Jeff Hardy defeated C.M. Punk to retain the World Heavyweight title: Matt Hardy was named the special guest (outside) enforcer for the match – and couldn’t even look his brother in the face. Everyone was waiting for Matt to screw Jeff again. Late in the match, C.M. Punk had the pinfall but Matt pulled the referee out of the ring. Matt jumped into the ring and Punk got in his face to protest. Jeff rolled up Punk and Matt issued a quick count to give his brother the victory! Punk was furious and followed Matt up the ramp, but but marched back to the ring and attacked Jeff in the ring! Punk bashed Jeff’s head on the announce table and then bashed him with a folding chair! Punk wrapped the chair around Jeff’s neck and rammed him into the ring post! Jim Ross proclaimed, “Jeff Hardy is seriously hurt!” C.M. Punk sarcastically told the trainer to “make sure you fix him so I can break him again!” Theodore Long came out and yelled at C.M. Punk. Punk demanded a rematch. Long said if Jeff was able to defend the World Heavyweight title at SummerSlam it will be Jeff’s match – a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match!
