As you know by now, during the conclusion of Monday’s WWE Raw, CM Punk jumped into the crowd to escape from an enraged Ryback and gives a fan an elbow and punch, which can be seen in videos on Youtube. Here are some updates to the situation:
Update 1: As reported in our last post, WWE Champion CM Punk hit a fan twice during the conclusion of Monday’s Raw in Sacramento, California. WWE fan Daniel Snyder tweeted: “I was there! Fan to the left kept pushing punk then someone pushed his head! He was swinging for the fences bro!” While all this was taking place Vince McMahon was in the ring cutting a promo a WWE cameras were flipping between McMahon and Punk. At one stage McMahon paused and gave a shocked looked at the scene transpiring before him…if this was not a fan plant then WWE will have a PR nightmare on their hands, possibly even legal action.
Update 2: The fan who was struck by CM Punk on tonight’s WWE Raw is to take legal action according to Arda Ocal of The Score. Ocal tweeted:
“Local CBS reporter @colereporting, who was at RAW, spoke to man claiming to be the fan hit by CM Punk. He filed a report with Police.”
The fan told Laura Cole of CBS 13 that he never touched WWE Champion Punk. Cole tweeted photos of the fan following the event (below), she said: “Just talked to the fan that says he was hit by @cmpunk. He says he never hit Punk. … This fan says his face is a little warm after he says @cmpunk hit him. He also says Punk broke his glasses. … The fan is still filling out a report with law enforcement. … Getting questions about whether the fan I talked to actually hit @cmpunk. All I can do is report what the fan told me.”
Update 3: WWE’s official statement reads: “During Monday night’s Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring and into the stands as part of the show. Unfortunately, WWE security was not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk’s persona as a ‘bad guy,’ fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him, and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.”
“I think the whole situation sucks,” Punk told WWE.com. “It’s an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded.”
“Somebody said, ‘let’s push him down the stairs,’” Punk explained. “I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched…Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize. I’m really just glad nobody was hurt.”
