WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

5/12 ECW house show results from Dayton, OH: Mark Henry over Tommy Dreamer, Finlay over Tyson Kidd via DQ, and Kozlov over Chad Collyer.

In Brief: The big news out of the show was the formation of DH Smith and Tyson Kidd with Natalya as the New Hart Foundation. I don’t know if they will actually be called that nor did they give any indication. Smith ran in during a really good Kidd-Finlay match and they laid Finlay out with a modified Heart Attack. All three were wearing pink ring gear. I would say 95 percent of the crowd didn’t have a clue who Smith was. No TV in Canada until August which is a shame because this would have been a bigger deal in Calgary… Mark Henry pinned Tommy Dreamer with the World’s Strongest Slam. Matt Striker noted that Dreamer injured his groin last weekend at live events and may also be wrestling with a cracked C2 vertebrae in his neck. Years ago he would have got a lot of respect for working hurt, but these days, if he does have those injuries, some might call him an idiot… Kozlov squashed Chad Collyer as they continue with the Russian supremist heel gimmick… The main event was a Peep Show with Jack Swagger as Christian’s guest. Earlier in the show Tiffany, who isn’t getting any better in the GM role, said there could be no physicality during the segment. You know, like the angle from the night before on Raw when Vickie Guerrero said there could be no physicality between Randy Orton and Batista. Christian made fun of Swagger’s lisp and then laid him out with a mic shot to close the show.

Superstars tonight on WGN has Big Show vs. Hornswoggle; Rey Mysterio vs.
Shelton Benjamin; and Christian vs. Mark Henry.

Rey Mysterio suffered a knee injury at the Smackdown taping on Tuesday in Dayton. The PPV match with Jericho on Sunday will still go ahead as planned although Mysterio is far from 100 percent. Due to the injury, which took place during the Superstars taping, much of Smackdown had to be redone on the fly. The original plan for the main event was a Mysterio vs. Edge that would turn into a tag match with Mysterio & Jeff Hardy vs. Edge & Chris Jericho. That match ended up as Edge vs. Jericho which was said to be great.

The 9/13 Unforgiven PPV is booked for Le Centre Bell in Montreal. This is the first WWE PPV in Montreal since the screw job at Survivor Series in 1997.

WWE has acquired a script for a movie called Brother’s Blood as a vehicle for John Cena. The movie is written by Karl Gajdusek who also wrote that smash hit blockbuster (note sarcasm) The Condemned for Steve Austin.

Lauren Jones, the former Diva and Price Is Right model, 27, is playing the wife of Mickey Rourke, 56, in The Expendables which is currently shooting in Brazil. The cast includes Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Brittany Murphy, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin and Randy Couture.

WWE has added a house show in Spain at the Sports Palace in Madrid on 9/24. Tickets are already on sale at Ticketmaster.

Raw drew a 3.3 rating on Monday night averaging 4.67 million viewers…
ECW on Tuesday slipped to a 0.9 rating averaging 1.23 million viewers.

Raw TV on 9/7 (Labor Day) will be a live show from the Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Jim Ross at www.jrsbarbq.com wrote an entire blog devoted to people questioning why he still works for the company. I am not sure what to make of it. Eric Bischoff and Jeremy Borash both posted comments on their Twitter pages in support of Ross. Bischoff tweeted. “Just read JR’s blog on JRSBARBQ.COM. He is a class guy that I have learned to like and respect. He’s doing what he loves to do. Good for him!” while Borash said “Why does Jim Ross feel the need to defend himself? Dude, people love you. Learn to love yourself… for it is the greatest love of all.”

Some more edits on the Wrestlemania 25 DVD. They cut a portion of Bill Watts’ Hall of Fame speech where he says “steroids hadn’t even been invented yet” in reference to Bruno Sammartino‘s weightlifting accomplishments. All of the Kid Rock references have been removed so the Diva Battle Royal picks up with all the women in the ring. They also changed quite a few camera angles during the Jericho-Steamboat match specifically when they missed Steamboat skinning the cat.

The Miz, with his own personal language interpreter, is currently on an overseas promotional tour of Prague, Serbia and the Czech Republic.

WWE sent out a release at http://tinyurl.com/q7uoqv noting that WWE.com in April did more traffic than NBC.com, ABC.com, Disney.com, TMZ.com, etc, etc.

The dark matches at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping in Dayton were Sheamus O’Shaunnessy over Paul Burchill, and Edge over Jeff Hardy in a cage match.

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Alex Marvez at http://tinyurl.com/pbc6ec interviewed Ric Flair calling
him pro wrestling’s version of Brett Favre. Flair was quoted as saying,
“I want to wrestle again… I watch (WWE) and I can still do better than
90 percent of the guys there. I weigh one less pound than the day I
retired. I still work out really hard and I wrestle my kid all the time.
It’s not like I haven’t been in the ring.” Flair said he is getting huge
money offers to come out of retirement and has grown tired of signing
autographs. He noted sending Vince McMahon a text message last month
asking why he wasn’t involved in the draft show but Vince called him
back and said he was retired. He was actually offered the GM role on
Smackdown for $250,000 per year but turned it down thinking he could
make more money independently. When pressed about a return to the ring,
he said: “… I respect Shawn Michaels and (WWE) so much that I wouldn’t
do anything to disrespect them. They would have to give me full
approval. They put me in a special place. I think it’s going to be a
long time before we see something come across again like what they did
for me. I didn’t think it would be that big a deal. We’ll see how this
turns out.” On Reid’s recent drug bust: “The biggest thing about that is
that it’s a disease. It’s not so hard for me to say that after being at
an outpatient clinic with him where they talk about a chromosome
deficiency causing stuff like that. It’s curable, but he’s going to have
to work real hard at it. He’s doing that.”

Dr. Phil Astin was given 10 years for illegally distributing
prescription drugs to patients. His patient list included the late
Benoit family and Johnny Grunge. He had plead guilty in January to a
175-count federal indictment. “I take full responsibility,” Astin told
Judge Jack Camp on Tuesday. “I am sorry I hurt so many lives. I was
thinking that I was looking after my patients.” Camp said the fact that
people died because of his actions were considered in his verdict.
Astin’s sentence was lighter than the recommended 11 to 13 years in
jail, and he avoided $1 million fines per count for over 50 of the
counts. When he gets out he will have to complete 250 hours of community
service.

Michael Benoit said now that the Astin case is closed he hopes to get
his son’s medical records: “Now, since the trial is over, perhaps that
will be made available to us,” Benoit told 880 AM in Edmonton. “Perhaps
that will provide more insight to how the doctor was treating my son,
whether or not he was doing the proper follow-up, and making sure that
what he was prescribing was doing any good, or if my son just kept
asking for it. I’m really not sure.”

Scott Siegel, the bodybuilder drug dealer who played a bodybuilder drug
dealer in The Wresler, was indicted on Tuesday for possession and
distribution of steroids as well as assaulting police officers. He faces
up to 45 years in prison.  Newsday has the story at

The ex-wife of Canadian wrestler Ivan Radocaj (The Croatian Giant) was

Sanford, 43, was charged along with Donald Richard, 31, Daniel Richard,
22, and Timothy Richard, 20, and Rita Louise Cushnie, the mother of the
three, with conspiracy to commit murder. The three men were members of a
street gang who allegedly beat Radocaj to death in 2007. Radocaj and
Sanford were married for just three weeks but when the marriage broke up
she had threatened to have him killed.

There is an interesting interview with Jesse Ventura at
www.chrisyandek.com talking on a variety of subjects. On his short-lived
MSNBC TV series: “At that time no one was allowed on television who
voiced any opposition to the Iraq war. Case in point, Phil Donahue was
on MSNBC prior to me. Phil had the highest rated show on their network.
He spoke out and opposed the invasion of Iraq Phil was pulled. Have
you ever heard a network pulling their highest rated show? Its unheard
of.”

Johnny Ferraro, the creator of American Gladiators, said a movie based
on the show is in the works. Producer Scott Mednick, whose credits
include 300 and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, is
supposedly developing the movie with Ferraro and Jo Allegro, executive
producer of a movie called Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders
(I’m not kidding).
