WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

Superstars tonight on WGN has Christian vs. Paul Burchill; Finlay vs.
Dolph Ziggler; and Santino Marella vs. Chris Masters.

Regis and Kelly on their show this morning briefly discussed Linda McMahon and her bid for the US Senate seat in Connecticut. Regis credited her as the mastermind behind WWE and put her over as a smart business women. Kelly then joked Regis should not to let Vince hear him say that.

With the announcement of Linda stepping down as CEO the WWE stock price held on Wednday at $14.26. In filing 8-K with SEC it was noted that Linda would remain on the WWE Board of Directors.

WWE COO Donna Goldsmith talked competition from the UFC during a Roth Media investor event on Wednesday in New York City. She said she still wasn’t sure whether UFC was a “fad” or not, but admitted they garner very good PPV numbers. She then argued that UFC doesn’t touch WWE in any other revenue stream and that WWE has a larger reach, which is kind of true, but that doesn’t say much for them being annihilated on PPV. She
said: “I can’t say they are direct competitors other than everyone’s share of the dollar. It has not affected any of our other business areas at all.” She added that WWE as a company now pay closer attention to UFC.

We received a tip-off that the Bragging Rights PPV on October 25 in Pittsburgh will feature triple threat matches with a Raw wrestler vs. an ECW wrestler vs. a Smackdown wrestler, and that fans would get to vote on the stipulations ala Cyber Sunday. They are also planning a Champion of Champions match involving the champs from each brand.

The Raw vs. Smackdown 2010 roster was revealed Wednesday during a webcast at Gamespot.com. The reveal always causes drama because talents left out as characters in the game won’t receive as much in royalties as those who are included. Those left out of the game this year were Gregory Helms, Paul Burchill, Chris Masters, Jamie Noble, Hornswoggle, Charlie Haas, David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, Jimmy Wang Yang, Zack Ryder, Sheamus, Tyler Reks, Yoshi Tatsu, Alicia Fox, Jillian Hall, Layla, Rosa Mendes, and Katie Lea Burchill. THQ also announced that The Rock and Steve Austin are available as playable characters in you pre order the game before October 20. A highlight of the webcast was The Miz complaining about the stats that his character was given, noting he was a 78, only one point higher than Mickie James.

Jim Ross has changed his stance of whether Jerry Lawler would remain with WWE should he be successful in his bid to become Mayor of Memphis.
Ross had previously speculated that Lawler would resign from his broadcast position should he become Mayor. Ross wrote in his latest
blog: “My guess is that if Jerry Lawler is elected Mayor of Memphis that the King will continue his role on Monday Night Raw. I can see some PR and marketing value for Memphis with their Mayor appearing on global TV on a weekly basis. Lawler’s political opponents might disagree with that assessment. This race is still wide open.”

John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler for the IC title is official for Hell in the Cell.

ECW on Tuesday night did a 1.2 rating.

WWE recently won a CableFax Award for Best Video On Demand Program/Special for it’s Legends of Wrestling: Soul of Wrestling video.

Muscle Flex sent out another press release today threatening to sue WWE over the usage of the Raw trademark in Canada. That’s their forth release this year and they still haven’t filed anything.

ESPN’s Jon Robinson has an interview with Ted DiBiase Jr. at http://tinyurl.com/nnwufk. A fun story from his childhood: “I do have a Million Dollar Belt story… I actually took the belt to show-and-tell one day. And my dad, he didn’t just carry the belt in a bag, he had a briefcase, a Halliburton briefcase with a lock on it. So all these kids pull out their paper sacks and pull out whatever they’re showing, then all of a sudden I come in with this briefcase and I slap it up on the desk. Then I enter the code, pop the briefcase open, and there it is in all its glory, the Million Dollar Belt. After that, I had like three girlfriends.”

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS

Impact tonight on Spike includes Matt Morgan vs. Samoa Joe; Kevin Nash vs. Mick Foley for the Legends title; and the semi finals of the Knockouts tag team title tournament.

The Sun at http://tinyurl.com/p5no9p has a story on Jim Cornette with comments from a source on what led to his firing.

Regarding that story, Stacy Cornette (wife) leapt to Jim’s defence today on her Facebook, writing: “For all of the fans… This is complete horse s**t. Just another way for Russo to try and smear Jim. I’m actually dumbfounded that this was even reported on. Jim WILL make a comment on this this week… not to worry. Vince Russo is going under the bus.” A short time later she deleted that statement.

The Cornette’s also released this statement: “Thanks everyone for your kind words but, we are REALLY OK about all of this. Gives us more time to make QUALITY products for Cornette’s Collectibles and devote our time to wrestling we actually enjoy being apart of.”

Congrats to AJ Styles and his wife Wendy on the birth of their new baby boy. Baby Albey weighed in at 7lbs 7oz.

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Former NWA wrestler Sam Houston (Michael Maurice Smith), 45, was jailed
on Wednesday in Louisiana for a probation violation. A judge ordered him
to finish a 10-year prison sentence from 2005 stemming from multiple DUI
convictions. He was originally released less than a month after he was
sentenced due to being deemed a non-violent offender in the wake of
Hurricane Katrina. His probation officer recently ordered him to attend
a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, but he left the 90-day
program after just 30 days. In recent years Houston had been working for
a construction company and also helped his father, Grizzly Smith, 77, at
a cemetery near the French Quarter in New Orleans. Houston is the
half-brother of Jake “The Snake” Roberts and his younger sister worked
in the wrestling business as Rockin’ Robin. He was also at one-time
married to Nickla “Baby Doll” Roberts and they had two children
together. He was best known during the mid-80s as feature performer for
Jim Crockett Promotions.

wrestling convention on October 24 in Monroe, NJ for Legends of the

Williams
; Davey Richards vs. Claudio Castagnoli; and Eddie Edwards vs.

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are currently in Australia making
promotional appearances for the Hulkamania tour in November. On The NRL
Footy Show Hogan talked about filming Rocky III and his WWE Hall of Fame
induction by Sylvester Stallone. He mentioned that he is single now and
remarked that Australian women are really hot. A funny moment occurred
when the host brought up Scott Steiner, who is the only other wrestler
to ever appear on the show, but Hogan denied knowing what he is up to
these days. You didn’t really think Hogan watches Impact did you? He
talked about Ric Flair being part of the tour along with The Nasty Boys,
Brutus Beefcake and Jimmy Hart. Tickets for the shows go on sale
September 24 and prices range from AUS$360 down to $49 for cheap seats.
They are also doing special meet and greet packages for $750 which
include: ringside tickets; a pre-show function with food and drinks; Q&A
session with Hulk and friends; and free merchandise (probably vitamins
and the grill idea that George Foreman allegedly stole from him). For
more info you can call 1300361936 within Australia and +61 2 82898510
from overseas.

Hogan also appeared on Thursday Night Live. Nothing much to that
appearance. When talking about the recent Serena Williams incident, he
said: “It’s time to let somebody else win, like we do in wrestling…”

Diamond Dallas Page said he has not been contacted for the Hogan tour.
That conflicts with what people from the Hogan end have told us.

is open to talking to TNA.

WRESTLING GLOBE MAILBAG

Just wanted to comment on the fact HHH will be in Vegas this weekend.

Here in Atlantic, Canada, Saint John, NB Moncton, NB and Halifax, NS.
The WWE are hosting Raw house shows that included HHH. It shows that the
WWE does not care about the smaller venues as this has happened several
times in the past.

I knew in my own mind that HHH would not be here but think of the kids
that wanted to see him and the parents that shelled out good money for
their children to see their hero wrestle.

Vince does not care as long as he has our money in his pocket and to
pararphrase Stone Cold Steve Austin That’s the bottom line!

Dennis Pitre
Saint John, NB Canada
