Sunset Flip Presents
WWE TLC 2010
By Jim Boy Star
Last night was WWE’s TLC 2010 PPV. Going into the event, like all WWE events these days, I just hope that it doesn’t suck. Folks, it did not suck. I want to take this week’s column to go over the good, the bad, and in a tag team match’s case, the ugly.
Intercontinental Title Match
Dolph Ziggler vs Jack Swagger vs Kofi Kingston
Going into this match, I felt like this would be one of the better matches of the night. In fact, out of the all the matches it was the one I was looking forward to the most. This is not because I have a biased towards one of the my favorite wrestlers, Jack Swagger. In the end, I found the match disappointing. I thought the ending was stupid. Perhaps it would have been better if Ziggler caught the title belt, which I read earlier was the original plan.
Divas Tag Team Table Match
Natalya and Beth Phonenix vs Michelle McCool and Layla
For a Divas match, it wasn’t bad. As always, there were botches. There’s no one that can expect to go into a Divas match and not expect to see a botch. However, the rest of the match was passable. For one of the first times in a long time, the womens match did not drag down the show. It didn’t necessarily make it better either, but that is an accomplishment in itself.
Tag Team Championship Match
Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs Nexus (Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater)
Since the Divas couldn’t hold down the show, something had to. This was it. Santino has definitely become one of my least favorite wrestlers today. Maybe my least favorite until Triple H returns (crosses fingers he never comes back). He’s not funny, I hate the Cobra and neither men are great wrestlers. At least they got beat up at the end. That’s the only positive about this match.
This may have been the best match of the night. Both men received lots of time. I figured John Morrison was going to win. Unlike the opening match, I thought the ending was done well for this match.
WWE Championship Match
This wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It was in the middle. If the first ending was the original ending, I would have hated it. But it wasn’t, although one may want to point out that they now expect an instant replay rule all the time in WWE.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Kane vs Edge vs Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio
Even though this does not apply to the actual match, it is worth mentioning. I HATE HATE HATE HATE (yes four “hates” not three) when the World title is not the final match. To me, the World title match should ALWAYS be the final match.
With that in mind, the match was good. I’m glad Edge won. He’s a 10 time champion and has yet to have a good run with the title. I hope this is going to be his good run. I would let him carry it all the way to Wrestlemania.
John Cena vs Wade Barrett
I found this match to be boring. It was a chair match which didn’t really excite me since that’s the weakest of the three gimmick matches you can have for TLC. The ending was terrible. If anything the palate that covered Barrett made it look safer when the chairs fell on him. If the palate was not there, I would have said “wow, what a great ending”, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. I’m sure it still hurt, but not as much as it would have if the palate was not there.
Conclusion: A great show by WWE’s standards in 2010. A good show, for pro wrestling as a whole, especially compared to ROH’s Final Battle which was plain awesome. Do yourself a favor and order the replay and compare. I think you’ll agree with me.
Unfortunately, next week will be my last column with Online World of Wrestling. It’s been great. Not sure what I will write about but I’m looking forward to it. No new Sunset Flip Wrestling show until this week and even then we are taking it easy for the last show. Sunsetflipwrestling.podomatic.com
