WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
6/28 The Bash PPV results from Sacramento, CA: Tommy Dreamer retained the ECW title in a scramble match over Christian, Jack Swagger, Mark Henry and Finlay; Rey Mysterio over Chris Jericho to win the IC title; Dolph Ziggler over Great Khali after Kane interfered; Michelle McCool over Melina to win the Women’s title; John Cena squashed The Miz; Edge & Chris Jericho over The Colons & The Legacy in a three-way to win the Unified tag titles; CM Punk lost to Jeff Hardy via DQ but retained the World title; and Randy Orton over Triple H in a best of three series to retain the WWE title. Dark match was R-Truth over Shelton Benjamin.
The only major surprise on the show aside from the inane burial of The Miz was Edge and Jericho winning the tag titles. As tag champs they can appear on any brand which isn’t such a bad thing. Teddy Long put them in the title match after pressure from Vince McMahon to shake things up working the storyline that Long is under probation because Vince feels Smackdown has become a horrible show. So despite blowing Raw and ECW out of the water all year the storyline is that Smackdown is the worst show.
Go figure…
Two episodes of Raw are being taped tonight at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. Nothing announced at press time but they will be taping all the major storylines leading up to Night of Champions in Philadelphia on 7/26.
The Smackdown/ECW tapings are at the Save Mart Center in Fresno on Tuesday, and there is another taping at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield on Wednesday. The double tapings this week are due to a huge overseas tour including Australia, New Zealand and Japan. We’re looking for reader reports from these shows to you2us@wrestlingglobe.com.
