OWW Women’s Wrestling Columnist Eric Holt chooses his M.V.D.- Most Valuable Diva(s) of the week, based on television matches, promos, and/ or segments.
On this week’s Main Event, AJ Lee put her Divas Championship on the line against Natalya. Natalya earned this championship opportunity after defeating AJ in tag action a couple weeks ago. There was great back and forth action between both women throughout the match. Natalya showed a lot of aggression, and AJ pulled out a couple of flashy moves, which she rarely does as a heel. The ending saw AJ getting disqualified after Tamina superkicked Natalya. Natalya won the match, but AJ retained the Divas Championship despite being DQed. After the match, AJ locked in the Black Widow on Natalya, making Natalya scream and cry in pain.
I was impressed with this championship match between AJ and Natalya. I felt they both had great chemistry, which always helps to make a match turn out well. I loved Natalya’s display of aggression in her entrance and in the match. The aggression she displayed reminded me of her face character from 2010 when she feuded with LayCool over the Divas Championship. I would love Natalya to continue showing a more aggressive side because it works for her.
I also loved the fact that AJ used a couple of flashy moves in the match. I don’t really feel we see AJ use flashy moves much as a heel, but I was happy that she used them in this match. It made her stand out during the match. I would love to see AJ do flashier moves in the ring more. I just feel like just because someone’s a heel doesn’t mean they always have to do rest holds.
The ending to the match is pretty much a hint that AJ vs. Natalya is far from over. AJ and Tamina may have gotten away with their heelish tactics and double teaming Natalya, but how long will it be until it all catches up with them? A great Divas Championship match and the beginning of a new storyline make Natalya and AJ this week’s Most Valuable Divas.
Come back next week to see who will be the Most Valuable Diva of the week.
