September 1, 2007: Adam Pearce defeated Brent Albright to win the vacant NWA world heavyweight title in Puerto Rico.
NWAwrestling.com WROTE: San Juan, Puerto Rico (September 1, 2007) – In a heated battle, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce captured the vacant NWA? Worlds Heavyweight Championship in a match against tournament finalist “Shooter” Brent Albright. The match did not end without controversy as assigned IWA Official Jose Vasquez had been previously eliminated by a inadvertent closeline from Albright causing Special Enforcer “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson to assume in ring referee duties. The match ended after Albright superplexed Pearce from the top rope, and both men’s feet became entangled. Danielson counted three and called for the bell, although it was unclear whose shoulders Danielson had counted down. Upon taking the belt from NWA? Executive Director Robert K. Trobich, fans in attendance seemed certain that Danielson would hand the “famous 10 lbs of gold” to Albright, instead he awarded the title to Pearce and informing Albright that it was in fact his shoulders that were down. In the end.
