Chris Benoit Career Highlights

In The Beginning:

  • 1985: Chris Benoit graduated from high school.
  • 1985: Chris Benoit would work all week, then drive 185 miles south, from his Edmonton home, to Calgary, to the Hart House.
  • After 6 months of the grueling training, Benoit made his debut for Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling.

Canada, Japan and Mexico:

  • Chris Benoit went to Japan for a full year of touring, before returning to Stampede.
  • ~~~Chris Benoit was billed as the “Pegasis Kid” in Japan and Mexico.
  • 1988: Chris Benoit defeated Great Gama Singh for the Stampede Mid-Heavyweight title.
  • Chris Benoit had a memorable feud with Johnny Smith for over a year.
  • July 4, 1989: Davey Boy Smith, Jason the Terrible, and Benoit were injured in a head-on automobile accident in Jasper, Alberta.
  • ~~~Smith suffered a cracked vertebrae in his back and needed 100 stitches in his head after being thrown through the windshield.
  • ~~~Jason suffers 2 fractures in his left leg and Benoit suffers an injured right knee.
  • 1990: Chris Benoit defeated Jushin Liger for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title.
  • March 3, 1991: Chris Benoit defeated Valliano III to win the WWF/UWA World Light-Heavyweight title in Mexico.

  • Chris Benoit signed on with ECW and had strong matches there, including a match with Sabu, where Chris broke Sabu’s neck.
  • Benoit went back to Japan before landing a permanent job with Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1994.

  • June 25, 2007 – RAW: WWE cancelled its live RAW and presented a three hour tribute to the life and career of Chris Benoit.
  • ~~~The following days revealed the shocking details that Chris Benoit had murdered his wife and kid before hanging himself.
  • ~~~The belief was that he killed his wife (Nancy) on Saturday, his son (Daniel) on Sunday, and himself sometime on Monday.
